Rogers' regular sized BlackBerry Bold gets priced: $399.99 on a 3-year contract
Though the pricing is a bit (and we emphasize "bit") easier to swallow than the $600 Movistar is charging in Chile, it's not even close to free. Rogers will soon be offering up a palm-sized version of its gigantic BlackBerry Bold (which will hopefully swap those informational cards with cell radios and such) for a staggering $399.99 on a 3-year contract. Who knew highway robbery was legal, anyway?

the thought of a 3-year contract sends chills down my spine tbh
Rogers is flat out evil. I feel sorry for all you hosers in the great white north.
They should feel shame in making people sign 3-year contracts.
that price is ridiculous. its not worth that. there goes rim overcharging again for their phones
wow blackberry just signed their death warrent.
nobody is going to buy a lesser phone for twice the money.
fail

No, your double post fails. lol
The carriers and resellers name the price, Blackberry just gives them a MSRP.
I suddenly feel some actual compassion for all the canucks cryin about their wireless options. Mother of god, 3 years and 400 bucks... Wow.
Rogers must be making an enormous profit off that. The up front price to cover the subsidy on a 3 year contract should be WAY lower. AT&T lets you upgrade every 18 months, I can't imagine waiting twice as long at 36 :(
$399 is pretty steep, but is still a very large market of people who will not make the jump to iPhone and are willing to pay ~400 to get this thing. It's all about the market folks. I think a lot of people forget Rogers is a business not a charity. If you were a business and could sell the Bold @ $400, and your customers were willing to pay to have such a device, why would you not? Of course, if sales are low, they've obviously not priced it accordingly, and prices will be slashed. End of story.
You can upgrade on Rogers every 12 months, which if I do my math correctly, allows you to get a new phone sooner than on AT&T. I personally get a new one every year, and the thought of actually having to wait 18 months for a new subsidized phone makes me ill. =)
It's free on Orange here in the UK.

It's all about competition. Rogers doesn't have much competition in Canada. I bet if they are in UK, Japan, or Korea where competition is cutthroat among carriers, they wouldn't survive more than 6 months with their mediocre service, ridiculously high charge, and lousy customer service.
My name is Peter, I have been ripped off by Rogers for 6 years.
Of course, Rogers asks for a similar amount for a 16 GB iPhone 3G... all of a $50 difference, really...
We need some more class action lawsuits up here...
Amen!
"Who knew highway robbery was legal, anyway?"
Answer: Anyone who lives in Canada and is getting used to bending over and taking it from the cellular companies up here.
Rogers is releasing it on the 21st, with the PR today as in Aug 19th.
:)
