real ptt is either iden or rev. a. Got it, Moto makes phones on both. Moto owns the Iden tech which is why only they can make phones on it unless they allow someone like bb. Qchat is a rev a. ptt tech that Qualcomm developed and Sprint is definitely using it. Some how Verizon has rev. a ptt as well. Sprint has exclusivity for Q chat so at first it was thought Qualcomm made VZW their own rev. a ptt. But now that Moto is releasing this maybe VZW is using this tech. Especially because Im pretty sure VZW and Sprint are the only networks in the world with Rev. A PTT devices on Sprint since July.
MOTO is releasing the Renegade on Sprint next month as well.

Data yes, PTT no. Qchat (developed by Qualcomm for Sprint) is slower than iDEN PTT, and Moto's PTT is slower still, since it's running in the software layer rather than being an actual modification to rev A protocols (Qchat). All in all, we're still talking about connecting in about a second on Qchat and iDEN PTT, so they're both pretty similar performance wise. Not sure on moto's solution, but I'd bet it's very close too.
As for sound quality...Qchat and iDEN are pretty even IMO, so not sure if that's what the comment in the story was about. If it was about Verizon and Sprint (CDMA)'s old PTT services, then yeah, they sucked.]]>Aug 26th 2008 3:23PM
