AT&T Tilt imbued with official Windows Mobile 6.1 update
It leaked ages ago, but the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for your beloved Tilt is now ever so slightly more legit now that it's made an official appearance on HTC's support site. The big draws here are Video Share support, reconfigurability for the push-to-talk button, and all the other spoils that come with the WinMo 6.1 we know and love, tolerate, or hate, depending on your disposition.

if anyone tries this please let us know how it affects the phone's speed and video performance
Same as the Kaiser WM6.1.
Tons of screen shots and bloat comparisons on http://www.tiltmobility.com
Got it installed (sans bloatware). Nothing especially significant in the update, but I supposed the threaded SMS will be handy. The OS does feel a bit snappier than before, but I could be imagining that.
It was my understanding that 6.1 was supposed to add the features shown here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/6-1/default.mspx. I guess I'm either crazy or I don't know how to enable these features...
Specifically, I mean the "New Home Screen Interface."
the new homescreen interface is smartphones only, not ppc.
do you have internte sharing and remote desktop now?
Yeah, internet sharing and remote desktop are both in there... So far the only thing really useful is the threaded sms. It's pretty slick. The voice command is part of the bloatware, I believe, which I didn't install. I think that could have been useful. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a cab to install it.
So far it feels SIGNIFICANTLY slower than my 6.0 ROM. 1-2 seconds to respond to key or screen presses. Ugh. I think I'll be going back...
So change is bad thing then. But, if so, should we trust you?
I updated it last night (no bloat) and was quite impressed. Overall it seems slightly faster than my Previous Rom. (Before I was using the AT&T 6.0 Rom (no bloat).)
So far just about everything seems a little faster. Video playback is noticeably improved, but still not where the phone should be.
So far all but 1 of my 16 programs were able to be re-installed. Threaded SMS is nice. I have not tried the Remote Desktop yet, but I plan to. Also included is a new program for the Office suite: OneNote Mobile.
Overall it's a nice upgrade from the AT&T 6.0 Rom. I plan on testing the HTC Class Action drivers to see if it improves the performance even more.
I didn't have any problems upgrading my Tilt, and no problems doing the soft reset to avoid the bloat crap.
Only Problem I had was getting Sprite Backup to, well, backup to the new version. It hates 6.1 and I ended up having to reload the update and put things back manually. Love the Threaded SMS/MMS. Haven't checked out the Video proformace yet.
Mine seems to run slower and am considering going back. The most serious issue I have is there is a bug in the BB Connect so I can't get calendar and contacts on my phone. That sucks....though ATT hooked me up with HTC and they said they are aware and a fix is scheduled for 3PM PDT today.
should i consider this a coffin-nail for my AT&T 8525?
Yes.
I love the 6.1 update with one BIG problem. My audio sometimes just doesn't work. When it reactivates I have no answer as to why. A warm-boot does nothing and I have a ton of s/w loaded. Any ideas, guys?
I would to know when t-mobile get this update and what is bloatware
anyone know where else I can get the actual RUU file to upgrade? The HTC site doesn't let be download it.
