HTC announces S740: because two keypads are better than one
Looking for the Touch Pro in a slightly less conspicuous package? HTC (who else?) thinks it has the answer in the S740, the first thorough revamp of the S710 of old. The basic concept is the same -- wrap Windows Mobile Standard into a candybar package with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard -- but the S740 takes design cues from the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro for a thoroughly 2008-ish look. The feature list has naturally been refreshed, too, with 7.2Mbps HSDPA on the 900 and 2100MHz bands (read: screw you, North Americans), quadband EDGE, a 3.2-megapixel fixed focus cam, WiFi, GPS, and a 2.4-inch QVGA display. And, you know, if all that isn't enough to impress your snobby friends, just slide open that keyboard, say "boom," and watch the jaws drop. Look for it to filter across Europe starting next month.

That is a sexy piece of kit. Was tempted to get one of it's predecessors actually, got a Kaiser instead.
Now, that is a really slick looking interface for WinMo Standard I can see there. Probably just called "FLO", because there 'aint no touching involved here ;)
Yeah, I'm sure it will be showing up across Europe within the next month. When are they going to release a damned phone to us in the US!?!?:?!?!?!?!io;jaiowe;fjio;awejfio;awejfo; Damn this is getting tiring checking every engadgetmobile every two minutes to see if sprint has the touch pro available. Throw me a freaking bone.
Don't forget the s730...it's s710 > s730 > s740.
Luckily HTC still makes these kind of phones. In the netherlands touchscreen phones/PDA's are the same as laptops according to the tax authority. So for companies that provide laptops, providing a touchscreen phone is far more expensive then a s740. (that's why i've got a s710).
Having to chose, i'd rather have qwerty then touch but both would be best (pro...)
This is the phone I've been wanting for years. I'm on Sprint and love the Sero unlimited data. I wonder if this would even work with Sprint?
It won't work on Sprint. It is a GSM phone.
This is a TEST Comment

I wonder if you could get this phone, get cheap unlimited data through a medianet data plan, and use this phone's data plan via another wireless device (ex. iPod Touch). Sure, it's two devices isntead of one, but the possibilities are endless.
This should have WM Pro and it would be PERFECT
it is long. i did a size comparison on phonearena.com and it is seriosuly longer. Thinner and less wide, but longer.
that is one ugly piece of crap. i hope its not as long as the pics make it look
I agree,
That's starting to look like those long Nokia brick phones from ancient times. ~Shudder~
I'll go with HTC's diamond line thanks.
They better make a version with 850/1900 MHz HSDPA. The US version of the S730 was pretty much vaporware. This one would be a really nice phone for those of us who prefer the regular phone form factor but could appreciate the extra QWERTY keypad. No touchscreen is also a good thing as far as I care.
Here here! HTC -- Where's the US love? Let's get this S740 some US 3G! I am a fading fan of the S710. I'm looking for the replacement, and if you're not going to give the US any love, I'll be looking elsewhere...
Perhaps it would help to just obey to the usual GSM standards, instead of screaming: "Build another phone for the US"....
Just a thought ;)
(Getting a Touch Pro in about a month...)
It's still not as good as the Helio Ocean!
