When it rains, it pours: Verizon XV6800 gets hooked up with WinMo 6.1
We're not sure if it's coincidence or if there's some concerted effort to push out overdue Windows Mobile 6.1 updates all of a sudden, but for whatever reason, Verizon's XV6800 is joining the AT&T Tilt this week in offering an official upgrade package for the first time. Could've come a little quicker, honestly -- Sprint beat 'em out the door by a country mile -- but let's just thank our lucky stars that it finally happened, shall we?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

It didnt work for me. The screen on my phone would become colorful and then a message would pop on my pc saying that my device wasnt connected. I tried it on 2 pc's. One with vista and one with xp. It connected to to active sync and wmdc fine.
Well i installed it without anyproblems. with this patch the whole akey issue was suppose to be fixed but i sitll had to call customer care to get it refreshed. secondaly no you tube support. other than that phone works great now.
Use this for You Tube videos: http://freewareppc.com/multimedia/youtubeplay.shtml My Mogul doesn't like the mobile You Tube site either - nothing plays. This app makes it easy to save videos, and touching the screen after the video starts put it in landscape mode to fill the screen.
I tried the update on another 6800 and i was incorrect on the akey issue. I made a successfull call right after the phone programmed. only thing i think that could of effected my differently is a coworker was playing with the internet on the phone before it was reprogrammed. So now people wont need to call customer care after a hard reset. oh btw for verizon customers here is the link for the update .
thanks anon for the youtube info. i'll work on that today.
Check out the Youtube pack that opens your youtube videos in TCPMP. You can get the cab at ppcgeeks and xda-dev. Also, you could try Skyfire since that will play youtube in the browser. The only issue is that it is beta so sometimes it can be a pain to get a download and it's not perfect yet. I tend to use the TCPMP method.
I wonder if this software will have the same issue that the i760 did where it would negate your sounds and notifications setting for incoming text when you performed a soft reset...
I have an email out to my QA guy about that... Hopefully I will get some worthwile answers.
anybody have any issues with text messaging afterwards?
Already out and running. The one in the link is the same one that Verizon has available on their website. I have updated mine and it is running smoother. The date transfer is much faster. I can't wait to get a 8 or 16GB micro card to through in it.
I went to the Verizon website and could not find the upgrade link. can you please send me a link to the VZW page?
Thanks
What about Verizon's release of the Treo 800w? It's WinMo 6+
I'd rather go back and use a Nokia 5165 then ever use any microsoft powered phone/pda
Wow LastVoice, that was a worthless comment. Speaking of worthless, so was Verizon's update. I can't stand threaded sms, Verizon still trying to snag every last penny by locking down GPS, and the bluetooth still doesn't work correctly with my car. How is it that Sprint's update for the Mogul resolved the issue with bluetooth for the same car ('08 Altima), yet Verizon's didn't?
If you don't like threaded SMS, then go in the settings and change it.
You can easily go back to classic text messaging. Yes GPS locked down sucks.
Overall good update. I can tell a significance difference in speed and I also like the quick launch on the Today Screen!
I'm having issues with text messaging - the "Text Message" item does not appear when I go to Start-Messaging. When I try to send a text message (via contacts), I get Cause Code: NoAck. Any ideas?
Same thing here. Called VZ after I did a OTA programming (*228 + 2) three times and then the CS agent "updated national roaming info order". Suddenly, text messages were flowing.
Resolved - I called VZ and they created a new A-Key for me. Once that happened and my device was warm booted, I received all of my text messages. Now everything seems to be working.
after a hard reset your suppose to do *228 option 1 not 2. Even though your recieving messages i would suggest redoing it with option 1.
"When it rains, it pours" is a negative phrase. Firmware updates are a good thing. So... I think maybe you could have used something like "the floodgates have been opened" if you still wanted to drive that water line.
Not a big fan of rain, I take it?
Unlock the GPS with the Verizon 6.1 upgrade. http://www.nynaeve.net/Skywing/xv6800gps/gpsserver.zip
Used this on the XV6800 & worked perfectly.....
Does anyone know about putting Android on the XV6800? I really want to try this google os.
