Palm cooking up a CDMA Treo Pro?
The hardened news hawks over at China Economic News Service would like to hit us up with some knowledge: Palm allegedly plans on outing a CDMA version of its Treo Pro "in the future" for carriers like "Verizon, Wireless [sic] and Sprint." While we wouldn't typically pay an unsubstantiated report like this much mind, Palm does see a lot of love from its CDMA partners -- and we have to believe that both Verizon and Sprint are putting the full-court press on 'em to pony up the goods after seeing how much more attractive the Treo Pro is than Palm kit they're currently able to offer. And don't give us any weak sauce 800w arguments, alright?[Via Brighthand]

If that phone comes to Verizon Wireless, I'll be the first in line to buy it. I'm a Palm follower all the way. (i.e. 755p user).
Me too.
Does anyone knwo what the touch screen is like? Is it a glass screen like other palms? or a plastic screen with a loose plastic cover for touch sensitivity (Like the Samsung i760)?
I don't see why they would even release the 800w (fatty) with this much newer, sexier version waiting in the wings. I'd be kicking myself, if I bought an 800w right now.
Probably pricing will be a factor in the Pro vs the 800w. All I know is I'm saving my pennies for the Pro if it does go CDMA.
New plastic button graphics gets all the Palm foolboy KoolAid chuggers all moist with anticipation for a Treo 'Pro'?! PT Barnum was oh-so-right!
I am not in favor of the Pro keyboard tho. 800w wins that one. Threaded SMS on the 800w wins. But, the CDMA could have that added to it (carriers choice, maybe?).
There are some differences.
yea that's what i really wanna know is the differences between the two other than the look. i mean i dont care how shiny it is, i just want it to function well and maybe not look like a foot. the keyboard on the 800w is great but the Pro looks like it has that Centro keyboard which is way too small for my hands.
so come on Engadget Mobile, make with the spec comparison.
Threaded SMS is a built in feature of WM 6.1
the real question is the OS. HTC and Samsung have upped the ante with their skins of WM. While the Pro does look nicer than the 800w, they have the same tired old OS. Either the Pro or the 800w with a new, modern Palm OS would be exactly what the loyal Palm base is waiting for
well im tired of speculation. ill probably just buy the first one they release on Verizon. i hate my phone now and both of these seem like great devices with very similar specs anyway. im not really sure im sold on the look and keyboard of the Pro yet but the 800w sticks to the tried and true Treo i've admired over the years. so unless the Pro has substantially better specs than the 800w, i'd probably end up just buying the 800w anyway. but i cant buy either if they just keep speculating about it forever...
I'll be the first to rag on Palm for everything
BUT...I think they got it dead right with the Treo Pro.
Full WM6.1..full keyboard and no flip.
I love my Tilt, but it would nice to dial a number with real buttons than the touch screen (3000-5000 min/month talker)
I am seriously considering this phone..
It's just a question of "when" for the CDMA version. What will be interesting is wether or not it's officially picked up by Verizon and offered at a subsidized price. The non-subsidy price of $550 for the GSM carriers is going to be a deal-breaker for a lot of folks.
The miracle of 3.5mm audio is enough to send back your 800w for. Who on earth makes these decisions about audio over at Palm? Bewildering!
If the Pro gets a CDMA flavor and is, at least, announced for Sprint by the end of this year then I will likely get it, leaving behind my substantial investment in old Palm OS software ... until the new Palm OS comes out, that is.
The treo pro i s waaaayyyy better than the 800w, the treo pro has very important factors, better battery life, 3.5 mm audio jack which enables pandora access,up to 32 gig external micro sd card support, slim factor, good looks, 320 by 320 screen, 2,0 camera res, 8 x zoom, wi fi and gps, great tool using google maps. The 800w doest not offer a 3.5 mm audio jack, not even a 2.5 mm, bad battery life, slightly larger phone, up 8 gig support on an external micro sd media card. the only thing i wish the pro offered was a standard sd card slot because there are some ultra sd cards which convert to usb similar to the the one i use with my ancient treo 700w. I'm sure there are slick usb adapters fro these micro sd cards. Verizon wireless is a great carrier but prices are too high for internet access, pandora should add verizon as a carrier for the free music offered thrugh them. Currently it is sprint and at & t who offers mobile listeing of the online free radio pandora. I hope my post was helpful.

Beta testing of the Sprint CDMA Treo Pro is already ongoing. We are seeing testing of the CDMA Treo Pro over at DSL reports since last week. It is coming through Sprints servers.
I really hope this is true. If not I will have to change to the.........Blackberry Storm. I shudder at the thought. But for my business I need to upgrade to a 3g phone and for my work this is really the only other phone that will work for me. Being an Alltel customer and soon to become a Verizon customer I really need to have the Treo Pro be a CDMA phone. Now I wait and see.
