This has to wrap up the lunacy that has seen Windows Mobile 6.1
updates for just about
everything that
needed one in recent times. We've seen 6.1
hacked for Sammy's BlackJack, but it's sorta sweet of them to get it out to us all official-like. The release notes on Samsung's site mention threaded SMS, Domain enrollment, and even a BMW iDrive patch as tout-worthy features, in this, the newest and best from Microsoft. As a word of caution, following the instructions to the letter is always a good plan during ROM updates, as failure to do so can lead to a very dead handset. Thanks Samsung, we appreciate the
speedy software updates. Read link has the goods.
Update: As a couple readers noticed, the links are dead for the updates -- though the pages are still up. Hopefully, they'll get those links sorted quick.

Uhh... that's a BlackJack, not a BlackJack II, as indicated in the headline.
Well, looks like they fixed it. Glad I could contribute.
Check that link again. They just removed the links as they didn't lead anywhere. Oh that one hurt, as I have been waiting for that post for 2 months straight!!!! But it must be coming soon?? Thanks for the tease 8( j/k you guys are still the best!
You guys should read the links you send to...the update is NOT available. The link to the file download was never there and the pages were pulled. This is just like the Tilt update...
how is it just like the tilt update? i got it 2 days ago...the blackjack 2 update was supposed to have come yesterday, but there was a last second issue...should be out anytime now though.
...and, it's not the last one - imate users (8502, 9502) have been waiting an eternity for their 6.1 update. While one owner had mentioned that imte support told him the update would be available mid-August, recent discussions from the oft unreachable support reveal that it's probably a longer way off - support now claims it is in the works, but will not comment on any specific date of availability.

This is just cruel! I just got a BlackJackII and was touting the new features to some iphone users and it would have made my week to show these off. Seriously why does it take the cell companies soooooooo long to release these updates? What is the use of the Windows Update feature on the phone if it does no good?
ALL of you alls problems could be solved by using cooked ROMs! We have had WinMo 6.1 for MONTHS on MANY MANY devices people! Cooked ROMs are faster, dont have any stupid carrier branding, and are just better all around!
Just like that? Ok, show me a link to a "cooked" WM6.1 for the Blackjack II.
There is no cooked ROMs for the Blackjack II. The problem is that they don't have a working boot loader or upgrade utility for the device. They very well can make a cooked ROM, but you cant get it on the device.
iJITSU, don't risk your phone now. The official ROM should be out very soon.
How much trouble would I be in if I attempted to us this BJ II specific "official" WM 6.1 upgrade on my BJ?
The bootloader wouldn't let you in the first place. That's the reason why we can't use Blackjack 1 to upgrade our Blackjack IIs. They are made for specific devices and therefore you can't use the BJ 2 official download for your BJ1. You'll just have to stay with cooked ROMs from now on.
Only as much trouble as a bricked phone would cause you.
Now the instructions are down! C'mon Sammy, give us what we need!
Blackjack users are lucky will all the support they are offered. My i620 didn't even recieve an update for the calender problem. Not even going to bother hoping for a 6.1 update. If anyone knows of any i620 user groups or forums I would appreciate a link.

How do I do a backup first? Also, is there a ROM to go back down if needed?
I am not aware of a ROM to go backwards. This is the first update for the BJ II so there isn't a mobile 6.0 rom out there.
To back up create an activesync connection and "copy / backup" pictures, songs, and files to your computer to be copied back after the update. Or if you are like me always store everything on an internal flash drive, then there isn't a need to back up.
