Sony Ericsson releases SDK for Xperia X1 Panel Interface, panel download service in the works (updated: video)
We know what you're thinking -- it's Windows Mobile 6.1 fool, we've got the developers kit already. True, but not the SDK that allows developers to create custom, interactive panels for the touchscreen QWERTY's Panel Interface. Sony Ericsson claims that, "The Xperia X1 will offer the richest mobile user experience, putting the world at the fingertips of the user." In other words, the expectations have been set, developers, so you'd best get to downloading the free SDK -- you've got your work cut out for you. Sony Ericsson will offer a panel download service in the future, showcasing all the panels built by you, Google, and other partners.
The Panel Applications are meant to be simple, rich, and fully-interactive allowing quick access to your data -- eMail, calendar, multimedia, games, IM... you name it. But don't take our word for it, SE explains the new panel ecosystem in the video posted after the break.

It's unfortunate that WM doesn't offer an experience that is "Rich Enough" that SE has basically put a shell on top of it.
Am I the only one who thinks that this phone should be running Android or S60?
Yes, you are
nope, you're not. i'm never buying a windows mobile device again
I agree Ron. This should be running android.
apple has one thing over windows and all these other companies and that is uniformity. these companies won't do well because Windows want to sell apps and now so does SE.
Wha dah ..? Advantage of uniformity and who wants to charge for apps? First of all, the panel interface is more of a task switcher to me but if SE wants to extend the capabilities of the Today Screen of WinMo than I'm all for it. Personally, I don't like it. But that's the beauty of it. Uniformity will get you boring rows of icons on your iPhoney screen. If you're @nal retentive and like that kind of stuff, then I'm all for it too. Sometimes I prefer Touchflo 3d, Touchwiz, Wisbar, or even Mobile Shell if and when I feel like it.
And who doesn't charge for apps?! APPLE? C'mon, get off your knees and smell the coffee instead of Steve Jobs arse. Everyone charges.
@ rudy
they only have uniformity becuase there is only one device.....
I can't remember the last time I read eMail like that!?! Early 2000s maybe? LoL
Interesting about the SDK, but this does not solve the fundamental problem with the Xperia X1, which of course is, how is this going to help if the Xperia will not run Windows Mobile 6.0?
