LG nabs FCC approval for Verizon's VX9600
If there's one thing you can count on in this crazy world of ours, it's that LG handsets that start with "VX" are destined to get stamped with a big-ass Verizon logo somewhere along the line. Latest in that trend should be the VX9600, having just passed through the FCC's danger-fraught passages on its way to a presumed release on Big Red down the line. It should be a pretty interesting device, too -- as most in the VX9000 series tend to be -- thanks to a 3.0-inch 480 x 240 display, a "game pad" of some sort, and a detachable QWERTY keyboard. Not a lot to go on there, granted, but this is FCC documentation we're talking about here. More on this one as we get it.

detachable keyboard? gamepad? looks promising... Lets just hope the interface doesnt resemble the voyager's iphoney-esque design. Downloadable display themes for certain models might be something they should consider, as not everyone is content with the out-of-the-box themes, but i digress
My only question is :
What is up with the numbering scheme?
The enV was the VX9900, It's "Upgrade" became the VX9100
The Voyager is the VX10K, It's alternative yet post model-esqe device was the VX9700
So by that rationale.... well..... um... by that rationale, I got nothing.
The real WTF is that the HTC Windows Mobile devices which are far more capable and better than these crappy dumbphones are the VX6800/VX6900. Also, Verizon sucks in terms of phones but it's too bad their network is the best. I hope they start getting some decent phones soon, they always get WM devices about 1 year after they come out or something.
The HTC models are XV, not VX (XV6900). They have nothing to do with LG's VX numbering scheme. Just wanted to clear that up for you!
im with iofthestorm, Verizon phones suck in general even though ive been a Verizon customer for so many years now. they are the only carrier that gets even a little coverage at my house though. so good coverage, but bad phones. and ive had like 3 of the LG VX phones and all of them have sucked ass.
vx9400 successor?
i'm guessing a release date past march 4th lol
Well from what I've heard this is a real hush, hush phone over at VZW. The one thing I do know is it will be out soon how soon I don't I would think by thanksgiving then again with the blackberry coming out soon I don't know if VZW would be stupid enough to pit another high end phone against the Blackberry. Yes I do realize that the Blackberry is a smart phone and the LG isn't but considering that 99% of the features on the Blackberry are also offered on non smart phones its kind of hard to justify spending that much more on a Blackberry. That's just for the handset I'm not even talking about the required data feature you have to get with these handset. I guess it will be more of a wait and see outlook with this handset.
To say that 99% of BB features are available on VZW dumbphones is an absolutely absurd statement. BB's have unmatched emailing capabilities, the ability to install 3rd party software, advance PIM capabilities that dumbphones cannot even begin to compete with, and much more. I don't think there will be too many devices within VZW that will pose competition to the Storm, to include the 9600. BTW, please take some time to learn the difference between a complete sentence and a run-on.
BB does have a small point Esquire0399 most VZW base app offered on a BB can be downloaded on a VZW handset. They are VZNav, RemoSync (Corp Email) just to name a few. The biggest area that these VZW handset really lace in would be the lack of sync support with any say Outlook or Lotus. If you do not need that feature it almost is cheaper to go with a "dump phone" as everyone calls them. You go with one of those premium plans that give you unlimited text / pix & flix it includes VCast, VZNav and some email program not sure what it is.
