T-Mobile to offer Android handset "soon," Reuters reports

It's not exactly a huge surprise, but Reuters is now reporting that T-Mobile will start selling a "mobile phone based on Google Inc's Android software" (otherwise known to everyone else as the HTC Dream) "within weeks," citing people familiar with the matter. The official announcement will apparently happen in New York City this month, with two sources further pegging the date for the announcement down to September 23rd, which mostly lines up with the details The New York Times reported last month. Buckle up, folks. Things are about to get interesting.

I'm going to sell my Instinct to get out of Sprint and get this phone.
I'm sort of an HTC fanboi, but I needs to know more about Android before I can get too excited about this phone. I has questions, like can I drag and drop my own ringtones, and what about third party apps???
Please accept this as blindly as Apple fanboi's did with the iPhone.
Thanks,
Google
@ Spyvie, Android is thought to be very much open and customizable. As of 3rd party apps for Android, there are already enough resources on the net, which collect such apps, e.g. my favorite http://www.android-freeware.org/ Also, Google will ship something like Apple's App Store, which is a pool of (currently only free) 3rd party apps, which are uploaded, rated and commented by other fellow Android users. With this "Android Market" you can install and uninstall apps directly from your gadget, so it also works as an application manager.
At just over .5 an inch, this thing should be pretty thin and light. Most pics I've seen of this device look awkward, but I'm sure it's one of those handhelds that look much better in person once you get to play with it.
I'm excited to try it. I've done the AT&T route and gunned for the 3G iPhone, but turned back around and I'm back with T-Mobile this time to stay!
this Android-based device finally will come to me
Can't wait for it, hopefully it will be sub-200 but unfortunately somehow I don't see that happening.
I hope they don't make us wait too long to find out when we can get it in the UK. Those rumours about T-Mobile carrying it from November would be just perfect.
Although, if it comes out in the USA first, at least we get to read all the reviews before we have the opportunity to impulse buy it. Just hoping it won't be delayed by an excessive amount. Android is my first opportunity to get a phone that actually works. Would you believe my current one can't even make an address book entry from the sender's number of an SMS? You have to memorise it and enter it manually...
