HTC's Touch HD unveiled in very much official glory
We're still sans a press release, but a friendly tipster found this quite official page at HTC's very own site, depicting the sexy Touch HD from every angle, with every spec exposed. The rumors were naturally spot on, but that doesn't mean we're any less enthused about the 3.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, and 3.5mm audio jack. Connectivity-wise we've got Europe-friendly HSDPA, GPS / A-GPS, 802.11g WiFi (we weren't clear on that one before), Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR and a microSD slot. On the software side there's TouchFLO 3D on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. There's also a front-facing VGA camera for video calls, 512MB of ROM and 288MB of RAM. HTC expects the 1350 mAh battery to score you 390 minutes of 3G talk and 450 ours of 3G standby, with 120 minute video calls just for kicks. The phone measures 12mm thick. Still no word on availability, price, or how you're ever going to stop us from cramming Android onto this thing.

I pray that this is coming to ATT
This variant certainly won't be coming to AT&T since it doesn't have US-UMTS/HSDPA. Maybe further down the line.
I wonder if AT&T would skip this one since it would be a competitor specifically to the iPhone. It would be in the best interest of AT&T to add this phone to its lineup (more customers, more $30 data plans) but it would not be in the best interest of Apple.
Why would AT&T pick this up? It's identical to the iphone except it has a crappier operating system. That would be counter productive to their contract with Apple.
What are you talking about it? It has a crappier opperating system than the Iphone? I will admit that the WinMo isn't the greatest system but it's a very open system and has been improving greatly. It alows almost endless possibilities with additional programing and customization for each individual user. Iphone can not be altered or changed. You can't even swap out the battery! All you end up doing is paying more for the samething.
This opperating system isn't the greatest but the phone is amazing and it has a lot more to offer than the Iphone. Plus there is a possibility to convert to the android if it is good. And there may have been some discussions between apple and google but what's the point in running android ON TOP of apple's OS? Cuz that's all apple is going to allow.
Sexy.
I just don't know if I can live without a physical keyboard though.
This is what the dream should have been...
Cant wait to have this run Android!
Great phone, but it makes my decision all the more harder now, Current contenders are; Xperia X1, Touch Pro, This, or a future version with sliding keypad (TouchHD Dual).
Arrrrgh!
I wouldn't hold my breath for the Touch HD w/ keyboard and NA 3g. If they make it (which I doubt), I can't see it being out before next spring at the earliest, and then there's the question of whether it gets picked up by a carrier and when (not an issue if you don't mind spending $700+ on an unlocked version). If I was you I'd go ahead and get a Touch Pro or X1. You might also want to consider the G1 if it turns out to be any good.

siCk
Maybe I'm just being picky, but 512mb of ROM? This is 2008, not 1999. WM6.1 will eat half of that. I realize you can put in an upwards of 32GB of MicroSDHC. So said the spec sheet, but has anyone see such a thing? No Flash? Is it me or does it seem that phone companies are crippling their phones just enough to piss everyone off? Finally, 3G US. Is it REALLY that hard to include with the rest of the 900/2100 frequency? How about Triband/Quadband 3G phones? Then we'd have none of this multiple versions of phones. I apologize for the rant, but I've been on the look out for 6 months for something to replace my N95 8B... maybe I need to lower my standards.
In comparison, a Nokia N95 has:
- 160 MB internal memory
- 64 MB SDRAM memory
That's for N95-1, and I would think that's the same for N95 8GB.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would assume that 512MB would be more than adequate comparing it with the N95. I use an N95, and I've never come up with memory issues, especially since I use a lot of chat, GPS and mail apps running simultaneously. I would believe that 512MB would be more than enough! :-)
I believe the N95 8gb has 128mb ram.
hmm... and now it´s gone from the HTC site.
Probably revealed a little to early :-)
They do that shit on purpose... lol
Man, HTC keeps making my mogul more and more obsolete every week.
Cant wait for this one, not sure if i'll grab this or the Touch Pro, we'll see. Maybe they'll bring out a touch pro HD.... man...
Looks like HTC is on to us and removed the page from their site... darn I wanted to get more info on it! I have been looking at replacing my Instinct with the Touch Pro next month when it comes out... now I may be looking for the Touch HD. Decisions Decisions!!!
Incredible looking phone, but I think it may be difficult to navigate some parts of WinMo without some type of 5-way.
to rudolphe if you want to make it feel a little less old install tf2d on it. i did yesterday on my 8525 its alot of fun to play with and works great
go search on xda its just a cab and very nice
I think when the phone hits the carrier though, it will have more added to it. I would think a carrier would include the 3G and maybe even a ROM boost (as Sprint has been known to do).
There's really no chance that this will come to the US anytime soon. 3.5mm audio jack alone is more than US carriers generally think we deserve. Plus, all the Touch (3G/Diamond/Pro) launches going on mean that there is a lot of product to move before it makes business sense to introduce some slightly shiny-er competition.
Yeah, but they can market this toward the hipster idiots that are brainwashed by the iPhone and maybe tap into that market of blind fanboyism that eats up BS marketing bullet points as though they're part of a healthy, well-balanced breakfast.
Well, I know the HTC Dream has AGPS in the specs.. But correct me if im wrong A-GPS is on tmobiles network right? This would be awesome if T-mobile would get this HTC touch HD!
WOW. Massive pixels, screen size, and specs. This thing is the scariest phone I've ever seen.
HTC knows just how to hit us Americans where it hurts... why not just let it work on American 3G? :(

@tpadekar: I realize I worded that strangely. I was bitching about the fact that there is no real storage space. Omnia has 8GB/16gb. iPhone as 8/16GB. C'mon now. If they want to compete at all, they need to put some bit of storage with or without expandability.
And HTC still fails to make the case of what are they doing beyond polishing their Qualcomm turd.
In fact, they're crippling radio bands now, and we sure know their TF* is still a laggy bandaid over their lack of 2D acceleration of Windows Mobile.
What do you need 8GB of internal space for anyways that can't be satisfied with microSDHC?
Hey, I just saw that eXpansys already has the Touch HD up for pre-order.
http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=173482
If this comes to AT&T, this is what will happen:
The front-facing camera will be removed.
Video recording resolution will be restricted to lower quality than camera is capable of.
This is probably why the European version doesn't include US UMTS frequencies. That and Qualcomm's various lawsuits may still be restricting phones released with Qualcomm chips in the U.S.
This phone looks AWESOME but I'd really like a physical keyboard. I'd even be happy if HTC or a third party manuf. created a clip-on slide-out physical keyboard that connected to the phone via very small cable or bluetooth.
Multitouch would be nice, but I'm sure Apple has a patent stranglehold on multitouch. Would multitouch even be possible on the kind of touchscreen this thing would use?
i was excited for this phone. Then i calmed down and realized that it won't come to the US for atleast another year so I'm still waiting for the G1 or X1
is it possible for someone to hack the rom and make it avail for all 3G bands?
I keep hearing it will come out by December but that is probably in Europe only, I am not sure when it will be available here in the US, anyone has any info???
I am currently debating whether to wait for this product or to get the Diamond.
^ I'm in the same boat, was pretty much all set on the Diamond then this comes out of nowhere. Any US release info besides the shortly after Europe release comment?
Specs for TouchHD "GPS/A-GPS ready". For HTC Touch Diamond - "Integrated GPS Antenna".
Are you sure this baby's got GPS built in?None of the other pages ever mention turn by turn software or anything. All thats mentioned is only "ability to view satellite maps" which you can very well view without GPS.
The Diamond has GPS, the Touch had GPS, the Mogul had GPS, the Touch Pro has GPS, the Touch 3G has GPS, the low end Touch Viva has GPS... WHY WOULD THEY NOT PUT GPS ON THIS HIGH END PHONE??
*cough*
My point is that they will put GPS on it, because its a standard feature these days. Why do you even have to ask anymore with these $700+ phones?
i find it very hard to believe that this will NOT come to the US sometime next year. this is clearly the successor to my TILT and the forthcoming Touch and Touch Pro. i would expect a post a few weeks from now showing us the thicker version with a keyboard and 3G. but whomever said the front-facing camera will be removed is right on.
and if definately needs at least 4 gigs of internal memory.
It's about time HTC made a phone with a decent sized screen. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. But where's the darn keyboard? This phone's almost perfect but with no keyboard I'm not interested.
will it be available in canada if so will be telus be the carrier ??? because ive been seing a CDMA version on the specs on their site
The HTC Touch Diamond was the iPhone competitor... but this HTC Touch HD is the iPhone MURDERER!!!!!!!!!
this is very close to my dream machine in the 2002
I was dreaming to have a IPAQ 1910 with phone function.
But where ARE THE HARDWARE BUTTONS??? DUN EVEN HAVE THE NAVIGATION PAD .... :(
Just as the HTC Dream G1 and Xperia X1 are Both coming to T-mobile, the HTC Touch HD is also Rumored to be coming to T-Mobile USA. If you remember the same was said about Dream AND Xperia so I for one cannot WAIT!!!
- D
There seems to be a slew of these HTC phones coming out with more RAM/ROM. I think it's just to prepare the market for WM7 / WM8 (if it ever sees the light of day). I'm thinking that's why the Touch HD doesn't have the navigation pad. I know it may be wishful thinking on my part, but I'm happy in my fantasy world.
I would pay for this in a heartbeat. But no U.S. 3G? I just don't understand. The U.S., and Canada, for that matter, is the hugest market on the planet. Why not add them? I'm going for my Treo Pro, and a Blackberry Bold, but still...I'm someone who loves gadgets, and I'd buy the XPERIA X1, and this HTC model.
Too bad.

Hey dude, your talk'n about ME. (and almost everyone else here)
In case it wasn't noted, it's back on the HTC site. was just there.
Hey guys, I know someone that works for HTC, and they said that this is indeed coming to Sprint December/Holiday's time!! :)
There will also be a keyboard version of it just as the Diamond had the Touch Pro, it will be the HTC Touch Pro HD. And it MAY have Android too. Sweet!!!

...and it will bake cookies for you too. Liar!
you're kidding right ?
that would be some awesome phone (Touch HD PRO +android)
Just can't think of life without physical keyboard...
Hey, Thanks for the info. would really appreciate any specifics you could give me to confirm from your HTC dude if Sprint is 'reasonably sure' they will release the Touch HD & HD Pro around Christmas, was going to p/u the current Touch Pro right now, but am willing to wait if I can get a better idea of the HD series. Thanks for any time & help you could contribute!!
