Ports of Touch Viva's new TouchFLO 2D appear for older HTC devices

With HTC's Opal will come an entirely new flavor of TouchFLO, so it seems, with leaks of the updated skin already leaking out onto -- you guessed it -- xda-developers. The name "TouchFLO 2D" is being thrown around on the interwebs, and as the name implies, the package looks like a flattened version of the TouchFLO 3D we're now well acquainted with that's presumably been optimized for use on devices with lower resolutions, meeker processors, or a combination of the two. That makes it a prime candidate for adaptation to older phones, of course, and that's where the whiz kids at xda-devs come into play: without so much as an official reveal on HTC's part, it's already been verified for use on a who's who of handsets from the past couple years ranging from the original Touch to the TyTN II and pretty much everything in between. As usual, proceed with caution -- but if you take the plunge, do let us know how it treats you, alright?

You got that right. Sites like XDA and the open'ness of WinMo are what make WinMo so great IMHO.

However, after about 5 mins with this thing on my Touch I got rid of it. I'm just an old school today screen guy. It ran great, I just don't like all the fluff.

I installed it on my Sprint HTC Touch over the weekend and it looks great. It IS a memory hog, but it runs very smooth. There's still some kinks that need to be worked out, but the guys at XDA are working hard and doing their best.

Installed and is "mostly" working on my Sprint touch with official 6.1 rom.
They seem to be updating it daily so you might want to give it a week or so to get the bugs out.

Aside from minor issues, it gives your Touch a fresh look, and snappy interface.

I tried running it on my HTC Wizard, to no avail. It doesn't suprise me though, my wizard is an old piece of junk, and needs to be replaced soon. Waiting on Windows Mobile 7 and an HTC device with a capacitive touchscreen, and/or Android for AT&T. Here's for hoping!

I got it running on mine man. I'm runnin the latest TNT 6.1 ROM, and overclocked to 247MHZ, it does indeed run on a Cingular 8125/HTC Wizard. Memory hog though I must say!

I have a Verizon Vogue and it runs beautifully,though its not as pretty as touch flow 3d it runs so much quicker and smoother than all the "touch flow 3d" shells. The extra speed on the processor is coming in handy, my friend with the 200mhz version doesn't run it as quick.

Yeah, I've got it running on my Mogul. It's surprising stable, all things considered. TouchFlo needs to be restarted about once a day on mine, but otherwise it's pretty nice.

Works great on my 6800/Titan with no2chems nuerom3. At idle i get around 23 mb free memory. If i were you i would donate to no2chem and get his newest nuerom (tons of memory improvements that make this phone faster than it ever has been before).

i will definately get the opal or whatever if it has a touch-keyboard, one that DOES NOT require a stylus like the htc touch, Also, if it is pretty cheap (99.99 would be nice, but maybe 149.99?)

Hey Ryan, the Viva/Opal has a QVGA version of the Touch Diamond's keyboard, so a really nice one with no need for a stylus.

On top of that, check out TouchPal [a search should help you]. It's what I use on my KS20, and it's brilliant. Who needs a stylus these days :P

The cab file for TouchFlo runs at over 14MB so in devices with less RAM you need to be careful. And for full functionality you still need to install Opera 9.5, the YouTube client and Google Maps.

That said it as smooth as silk on my HTC Trinity (vanilla/lite 6.1 ROM).

Have it running on my cruise, and is by far the best thing that ever happened to this phone!!
It's still a little buggy, but can safely say that If this new interface hadn't come along I'm pretty sure I would have dumped my HTC for an iPhone or BB.
Don't know how those cookers do it, just amazing to me.

You realize that the 8525 is the HTC TyTN, right? So yes, it will work. It works on my HTC Mogul - it's pretty sweet.

Been using this for the past few days and I absolutely love it. I definitely suggest the Diamond digital clock mod. There are a few bugs to work out, but that's expected.

I put it on my HTC TyTN II yesterday. Nice. Much faster than a lot of launchers I have tried. A few bugs that dont bother much. INFO: if you install and want to uninstall, you have to go into Settings> Today> Items, then un-check TouchFLO. That is all.

I put this on my Sprint Touch two days ago and it's fantastic. Using N2A's weather patch, I have custom weather locations and everything seems to be working okay except for the audio player, but I haven't had much time to invest to see if I can get that working. Overall, I actually feel like my Touch is more responsive while running TouchFlo 2D which is a fantastic surprise because my inclination would be that the Touch would actually run slower. I think this will actually help me get more life out of my phone as well. One negative thing I did notice is that my battery life seems to be draining faster...it could just be that I'm playing with my phone a lot more though. If your device will run this, definitely give it a shot!
