We've known for what feels like ages that Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 would be
based on Windows Mobile, but we wouldn't count on the X2, X3 or X99 to just follow suit. At the launch of its digital
marketing campaign for said handset, the firm made clear that future SE Xperia phones may not be based on Microsoft's OS, with Magnus Andersson, product manager for the X1, noting that "the brand is not tied into any specific technical platform." Unfortunately, he didn't elaborate nor give any indication what other systems we could eventually see, but at least we know that there will be life after the X1 in one form or another, right?
Symbian please!
Why?!
Why not?
Symbian please!
Old news, reported by engadget earlier this year i believe.
Whether that statement is still valid is questionable now that the SDK has been released, they need to get their finger out and get this thing shipping already. Public opinion will tell them where they need to go OS wise if it turns out WM6.1 isn't all its cracked up to be. HTC have shown you can have smooth, fluid UIs on WM6.1 devices, and as we all know the X1 is a blinged-up HTC.
I'll take one w/ Android.
meh symbian, osx or android? @_@
Android X1 CONFIRMED!!
I'd like to see them revive and push the UIQ3 [UIQ4?] OS personally. It has a crap-load of potential. Smartphone operating system, but you navigate like a dumbphone? Gold.
*shrugs
I'm one of the few UIQ fanboi's left :P
Yes you are. You were supposed to cash out when Nokia bought out the remaining shares od Symbian. Where were you?
Josh G, +1. SE killed UIQ by never giving it any decent hardware (P990 not enough RAM, P1i not enough CPU), so making it uber-slow and crash-happy. The OS itself was sweet.
How badly does HTC want to manufacture Symbian units?
UIQ please.
