first.. damn my slow internet couldnt let me watch the confrence live.. damn ...damn ..damn.. that phone is ugly..
Is it just me, or does this very much look like a First Gen device?
Can't wait to get one. Yes it does look like a Sidekick thats had one end cut off. Hopefully the open source will generate a lot of developers to pay attention to the NEW OS out there and get busy.
wooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, for $179. But goood luck geting it. The damn mytomobile server crashed. I tried it too. I guess its for a lot of people already.

Customers outside of 3G aren't allowed to buy the phone (except online, and only after witnessing how nerfed it is on 2G). And even after the end of TMos major expansion, there still won't be 3G in the entire tri-state area that includes Cleveland and Pittsburgh. That's one hell of a hole in your coverage, TMo.
Someone wake me when I can install Android on a TouchPro (Fuze).
I was ready to jump til today. What a shame.
WOO! Just preordered mine!
What URL did you use? What links did you have to select?
I can't find the links on the t-mobile.com sites. :/
it is a very odd looking phone. seriously, with only 6 down there, does the bottom really have to be that big? it looks like it would be uncomfortable to type on. i cant really knock it until ive tried it out though. i just have to find a T-Mobile store now to test it out when it drops.
and by '6 down there', i meant '6 buttons down there'
The pre-order page is officially down. They have replaced it with a message saying to come back later.
Way to drop the ball T-mobile... But I'm still buying it
Got mine too.

If your total data usage in any billing cycle is more than 1GB, your data throughput for the remainder of that cycle may be reduced to 50 kbps or less. Your data session, plan, or service may be suspended, terminated, or restricted for significant roaming or if you use your service in a way that interferes with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users. Some devices require specific data plans; if you do not have the right plan for your device, you may not be able to use data services. Some downloads, such as movies, music, and games, not included. Domestic use only.
talk about a cap.
It doesnt seem like we can pre-order the WHITE G1! Why!!!! Can we get some official word on if this is the case or is the system slow to update? Why also does it say $299 for price instead of $179!?
Ouch
I see $299 on mytmobile. Really? Waiting to see if the "issue" gets resolved.
If you see the $299 price it means you aren't eligible for an upgrade yet most likely. The site says you can get it AS LOW AS $179, which is with your upgrade discount.
I'm currently 15 months into my 2-year contract. In the past < 1 year remaining on 2 year contract has qualified me for the full subsidized price. Now it's telling me $299 for the G1. Did they change their upgrade credit plan? If this is their idea of a special deal for existing customers, it doesn't make me feel special.
Sucks!
The G-1 certainly looks like an interesting phone, but it is missing a vital and important feature. FOTA - firmware over the air capability. Increasingly operators such as AT&T and Verizon are counting on FOTA to help them keep devices on their network up to date, allowing updates to the devices soft of like Windows Update. This allows devices in the field, which may have bugs or incomplete feature sets, to be updated from a central server. The good news is that OEMs who want to implement FOTA on Android can easily do so, the company I work at (InnoPath) just announced FOTA support on Android

What about UMA?
I think that the caps will be temporary. T-Mo is just now releasing 3G. They probably don't want people slamming the service with downloads until they make sure it is stable. I foresee them moving the cap to a more iPhone like 5GB within a few months.
@epoch - I understand why they only want the G1 on a 3G network- imagine the swarm of unhappy users complaining about how slow the phone is without 3G. They don't want a repeat of the first iPhone. However, I do feel your pain- It seems like Cleveland / Buffalo / Pittsburgh is always the last place on earth to get anything (I lived there for most of my life).
the sony ericsson for tmobile is also gonna be on 3G
