T-Mobile G1 manual leaks out

It's going to be a few weeks yet until your unwashed hands are touching an actual G1, so how'd you like some reading material to pass the days in the meantime? T-Mobile has trotted out its first Android phone's user's manual -- probably not on purpose, if we had to guess -- and there are some interesting little morsels in there that'd be even more interesting if you actually had the phone in front of you. For example, did you know the G1 had a status light? Don't see those too often these days. You've also got a full rundown of the notification icons, apps (including the Android flavor of T-Mobile's myFaves app), and -- get this -- procedure for battery removal. Fancy that! Wow, nice manual - I wonder if the phone has the ability to do ringtones, or any of the million and a half other functions they haven't mentioned, like what WIFI it supports, or, again, how big the screen is. Of the 48 pages, about 15 were legal pap. Plus the one about don't crawl into the back seat to get your ringing phone whilst driving.

No UMA? :-( I have a TMO BB 8320 and get only UMA service in my house. Looks like I may have to take a pass on this new toy :-( Why in the world would they not include UMA? Damned!

I agree, it's utterly retarded not to have UMA on a device like this that has 802.11b/g. I think honestly that it's just they said "f it, we need to get this horse out of the gate"

I'm confused, everyone is saying that the connection is ExtUSB, but the manual clearly states that the USB charger and PC connecting cable are micro-usb. So which is it?

The ExtUSB port can also accept regular Mini-USB cables.

Funny... No mention of the camera functions, even in the Having Fun section. I was hoping everyone was wrong and the manual said the G1 was capable of taking video.

Something I found rather nice: Highlighting text with the trackball, cutting, copying & pasting with keyboard shortcuts. So far, I thought the only way to copy & paste was to hold your finger on an editable box, and use Copy All or Select All. I was hoping there was a way to highlight just some text.

Something that disappointed me: Apparently, the only way to enter special characters is to press Alt + Space. This probably means you'll be shown a large table of characters where to pick from. This is quite bothersome when writing text in a language that uses these a lot, for example Spanish. I was hoping there would be an easier keyboard shortcut, like pressing Alt-A to toggle among a, á, ă, etc.

The Mac (US keyboard) does this very nicely.
Alt-A -> Å
Alt-E + A -> Á
Alt-O -> Ø
Alt-E + O -> Ó

etc..

I like the warnings on Page 33:
"Water will damage your phone and accessories - even a small amount of water such as [...] tears of joy [...]".

How can you resist producing these if you got this phone!?
