Steve Ballmer confirms Zune coming to Windows Mobile
Rumors of a Zune phone have floated around forever, but we've always thought it would make more sense for Microsoft to start by simply making a Zune player for Windows Mobile -- a plan Steve Ballmer casually confirmed today in an interview with CIO Magazine. Sure, Ballmer's hinted at Zune on WinMo in the past, but those were just hints -- not like today's pronouncement that "the Zune software will also be ported to and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile devices, etc." That's a pretty solid declaration of things to come, if you ask us -- too bad he didn't give a time frame. Now, about that 360 integration.[Via WM Power User]

probably gonna get flamed for this,
but I would rather have the iPod music player ported to a WM device. I think its much easier to use, espicially for playlists.
if i had itunes or something like the ipod media player on my i760 i would hate it much less.
er............is it wm7?
iTunes DRM would make porting your tunes to other devices difficult. I know the cult of Mac has everyone brainwashed into beleving all things Apple are great and all... but Zune is DRM free, iTunes is not. That means a lot to me.
we have a family Zune which mainly resides with my wife and we love the new changes to the Zune desktop software. I felt that the only thing lacking was the ability to sync to other devices like my WM5 phone or our Sansa which normal Media Player will do.
so, this is a no brainer for the phones, especially if it's a replacement for the (barely adequate) WMP10 that's in Windows Mobile 5 and 6. but they still need to open up sync support on the desktop with other players if they're going to put any sort of dent in the iTunes dominance.
speaking as an iTunes / iPod defector, those who trash the Zune, usually haven't used a Zune. the new desktop software is by far the best living room media player experience yet, so much that I wish they'd find a way to replace/integrate it into the Vista Media Center too. but the "Social".... meh...
about time. I've been using my HTC kaiser as as my mp3/wma player for a while, i'd appreciate a zune interface.
