RIM's co-CEO sez AT&T still testing BlackBerry Bold
We've long since known that RIM's BlackBerry Bold was AT&T bound, but in case you haven't noticed, the rumored October 2nd release date has come and went, and there's nary a Bold on any of AT&T's store shelves. According to RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, the handset is still undergoing testing at AT&T, suggesting that it wanted to avoid the complaints that arose when the newest iPhone hit in July. AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel remained mum on the subject when asked, only affirming that the handset would eventually be available this year. Ah well, you've been looking for a reason to vacation in Chile, haven't you?

lol. WOW.
Hmm I think they are scared everyone will realize their 3G network is shit :)
Paul you are So Right, ATT's 3G Network is So Lacking for the AMount of Time, its not Funny.
I believe testing implies that maybe something maybe wrong with the device itself.
Making a 3G GSM device is quite a different animal than a CDMA one, so bugs are an issue.
I happen to have an unlocked version in front of me now and it's crashed 3 times since I got it, never had a Curve do that before!
don't know will ATT end up canceling bold
T-Mobile will not get it because it won't have both 3G and UMA, and get 8920 instead
Well considering these devices - with proper HSDPA - have been available in other parts of the world - including Australia - for nearly a month now, I'm beginning to think the problem may not so much be the device so much as the network.....
Actually, it has ALWAYS been standard policy for AT&T to test ANY new device for an additional 400 hours on their network, with their technicians. The delay is more than likely due to the amount of new devices launching this quarter (and therefore being tested) and the amount of qualified testers. Not to mention that the Oct. 2nd launch was announced by RIM, NOT AT&T.
It's possible RIM is delaying it because they don't want to tarnish their reputation with a substandard network.
The Bold was originaly slated for May i beleive, if AT&T's tech's can't make this phone and/or network work in 5 months then they need to get new Tech's or drop the phone that happens to work well in all the other countries that it's sold in.
What is so hard to understand haters? The Bold was NEVER to be launched at the begining of this year. RIM sells more Blackberries with AT&T then any other carrier. Their reputation is as solid as any other manufacturer. The device was actually scheduled for January 09 according to AT&T but they have decided to step it up prior to the holiday season, but again due to the amount of new devices being launched within the same time period the testing process has taken longer than usual.
Not all other countries...
The same goes on with Telstra down-under which also happens to provide 3G services over 850MHz band... and that's where their issue is. Few weeks ago we got few Bolds from Telstra for testing and the issues with the data connection on that devices are endless. Specificaly with switching between 2G and 3G - once switch occures data connection is dropped and is not restored automatically.
Switching device to 2G or 3G only makes it more stable.
So unless it's not a hardware bug then software fix in radio stack should resolve the problem but if the second would be the casse then I'd assume it would be solved by now...
I work for At&t mobility and I was recently in a training class this week for alot of the new data devices coming out. When the subject of the Bold came up, we were told that we were performing more tests on the Bold due to issues with the battery overheating in some of the test models. They also stated that it would be out within the next month. Don't know if this is really the problem but this was the information sent down to us through our trainer. So take it for what its worth.
