RIM's BlackBerry Storm 9500 / 9530: details galore
RIM's BlackBerry Storm 9500 / 9530, which is more affectionately known 'round these parts as the Thunder, is definitely within striking distance. Still, just because you don't have too much longer to wait doesn't mean you aren't anxious to get your hands on as many details as possible beforehand, right? The Boy Genius has managed to procure a few mundane stacks of PowerPoint slides that just so happen to contain some pretty scrumptious information on the touchscreen-based BlackBerry, and while there aren't any mind-melting surprises in there (like, confirmation that it can indeed read and reply correctly to each e-mail automatically), it's not the kind of data any real RIM fan would want to overlook. Go on and hit the read link, what exactly are you waiting for?

If I was RIM I'd wanna strangle that review ninja. That guy crashed the hype train.
That thing is fugly.
Is anyone hosting the images anywhere else?
Their site is painfully slow.
Yes the are in the first post of this thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1433944&page=1&pp=30
Yeah it's not the most attractive device ever.
Crackberry has the images uploaded and there is no delay at http://crackberry.com/new-storm-details-emerge.
I'm still sorely disappointed that it is coming to Verizon as an exclusive device. 900 minutes, 500 text messages and "unlimited" data and no tethering for $119.99 a month? ($149.99 with tethering) They must be out of their minds.
I have TMO with 1000 minutes, unlimited data, tethering, 500 text messages, 500 MMS and UMA capability all for $80 a month. Verizon may have a much broader network than TMO, but their customer service is a nightmare.
If the 9530 would only come to the US...
you should really check your sources before trying to make a point:
VZW:
900 minutes (incl unlim VZW-VZW, unlim N&W) = 59.99
500 text (incl unlim VZW-VZW) = 10.00
BES (corporate email access) = 44.99
TOTAL = 114.98
if you only need web-based email service, you can cut the data plan by $15... BIS = 29.99
TOTAL = 99.98/month
T-Mo:
1000 "Whenever" minutes (unlim N&W only... *no* unlim TMO-TMO) = 59.99
1000 txt (does not incl unlim TMO-TMO) = 9.99
blackberry unlimited = 39.99
TOTAL = 109.97
I fail to see your big savings, Eric.
*note* -- this is all based on *current* info available at verizonwireless.com and tmobile.com
Or maybe I should say the 9500...
clarification: the 39.99 for TMO was for their BIS service
Ok, well my BIS with TMO is grandfathered to the old $19.99/month plan, plus I have 500 texts ($4.99). However, I can get 15% off through my work even for BIS.
Eric, a better plan for corporate email would be:
Nationwide 900 Minute Email and Messaging Plan - $119.99
- 900 Daytime
- Unlimited N&W
- Unlimited IN Calling
- Unlimited Messaging
- Unlimited Data
Tethering - $15.00
- 5 GB cap on tethering
Chances are that if you are working off a BES server, you will have a Corporate Discount available to you. So, say the standard corporate discount is 20%, you'd be looking at $95.99 for the plan and add the $15 on for Tethering and you pay $110.99.
That price is way better than T-Mobile, and you will get 3G speeds with EVDO Rev A, not Edge.
dude, in order to have the $15 tethering plan, u need to have a regular data plan for the phone itself so include the unlimited $45 data plan to all of your calculations...if im wrong please correct me but my understanding is that the $15 tethering plan is only a data add-on to expand the usability of your phone to your computer
chanmannn is right. you need to have the $45 data plan to get the $15 tethered modem feature. that is how i had to do it.
You're wrong. You can add the $15 tethering to a bundled plan. The bundled plans (i.e Nationwide Email Plans) include the $45 unlimited data plan. Call VZW and get your plan changed.
you can have either the BIS or BES data plan. either way, to tether the phone the cost will be $59.99 WITH the data plan.
bis 29.99 + tether 30.00 = 59.99
bes 44.99 + tether 15.00 = 59.99
so I'm looking the specs on the BB Storm and I know its coming out for Verizon but, does anyone know if, and most likely, we can get one unlocked and have it work on the TMO network
UMTS/HSPA: 2100 MHz
North America: 850 MHz GSM®/GPRS networks
North America: 1900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
??
I want that phone!
