Samsung Instinct firmware changes confirmed: it's the browser

We've been holding off on running this until we got confirmation from Samsung on just what was going on, and now we have it; it's official, folks -- the Instinct's latest firmware update is all about the browser. To quote Sammy, "most of the traits of this upgrade focus on improving the Web browser experience," and the word on the street seems to be in line with that with faster page loading and generally fewer crashes being reported across the board. As best we can tell, it doesn't solve every last issue in the book, but it's awesome to see that Sprint and Samsung seem to be staying on top of this stuff. Have an Instinct? yep, it helps with speed and offers a full screen mode if you hit the voice command button when in the browser. there is also an update planned in the next few weeks that will add support for lcdui (basically, allowing the keyboard to be accessed in java apps such as google maps, etc) and viewing of office and pdf files. possibly even exchange calendar support. the diamond and pro might be better business devices, but sprint and sammy seem committed to making the instinct better
Yep, the browser is far more functional after the update. Not only does it render MUCH faster, but I can now access sites that the previous browser couldn't.
As far as crashing is concerned, it has happened to me once or twice while trying to access Yahoo! Fantasy Football, but it used to happen quite a bit. A definite improvement.
I truly feel sorry for anyone who got this phone. I was really excited about it until I got my hands on it and realized its all a bunch of hype for nothing. I'd rather have the omnia with a similar form factor and a much more powerful operating system.
I do, however, like that Samsung is willing to continue updating and supporting its product.
Of course we would all rather have the Omnia. But until we can have that in the states we have to stick with what we have. Now quit your whining and at least offer some constructive criticism.
Personally, I'd love for the browser to reformat text within websites. But on the whole, it's great how much the browser has improved. Certain websites used to crash the browser and would take a few seconds to boot back to the home screen. Now however I can visit many more sites, and is becoming closer to a full fledged desktop browser. Load times have also improved, but I'm still waiting for lcdui support to kick in, I'd much appreciate having the opera mini browser work.
this is a great phone and the sowtware updat helped alot. it made it faster and the phone is just great there is no need to trash this phone
I really like the instinct and it has many great features and the browser on the Mogual was very unrelaiable and had a tendincy to crash and the phone just seemed to crash. 6.1 fixed a lot of stuff but broke a lot of other stuff.
I hope that soon there will be applications for the phone as that is what we really need!
Sprint just needs to do something about web when viewing pictures. It should come with an update where when you click on the pick it takes up the entire screen and picture quality is great. For example when viewing pictures on facebook book they are small and blurred. Fixing this problem will be a great achievement. Sprint can thank me later.
Would like Sprint to offer games at a one time charge rather than renting them. Concept seems obsolete.
