Sprint Music Store's tracks set to go phone-only

A great feature -- or, at least we thought it was a great feature -- of mobile music stores is that you're not eternally shackled to listening to the track on your crappy little handset. Buying and listening to music on the road is all well and good, and admittedly, it's probably the typical mode of operation -- but when you get home, it's nice to have your dollar-each tracks available for download on the desktop. Sprint wants to move away from that model, though, announcing that tracks purchased in its Music Store will skip PCs altogether in favor of a phone-only model starting October 15; you'll still be able to back up tracks to your computer, but they'll only play on the phone. That's awesome, totally logical, and a surefire way for Sprint to turn a profit on its music service when competitors are offering DRM-free tracks that can play anywhere you damn well please for the same 99 cents Sprint's charging. Something tells us this won't last long -- Sprint will either relent, outsource its music biz to a more capable third party, or stop offering music directly altogether. Or so we hope.
Whoever wrote this article is a moron....Sprint already outsources thier OTA solution. A little research before writing an article is KEY!

O Sprint how I used to love you, But you really shot yourselves in the foot with this move.
I've bought a few tracks from the Music Store, but I've never done anything but listen to them on my handset. I've never bothered to download the PC tracks so to me, this isn't a big deal. That doesn't mean it isn't a big deal to others though. I wonder how many people who purchase from Sprint take advantage of the PC download.
Maybe they forgot about a little thing called amazon MP3.com which not only sounds better on my sprint phone then my 1(yes ONE) sprint downloaded track. But thats not even the best part, I can also put it on my ipod, burn it to cds for my car, stream it to my xbox/ps3 and countless other uses.
Tell me again why anyone would pay a dollar for a song, when you can use that same dollar and get a double cheeseburger from McDonalds? Further, why would anyone buy music through their PHONE carrier? Never saw the point in that crap. I'm a Sprint fan boy through and through... I'll admit it.... But the day that losing the ability to do something as trivial as this makes me whine and cry, I hope someone shoots me.
What other carrier has it for that cheap? Verizon Wireless music downloads are $1.99 for both a phone and PC download. What are the prices on AT&T and T-Mobile?
the 1.99 with VZW is only for on phone downloads. if you download it from your PC its $0.99
Who actually buys music from their phone provider? Are you guys joking?
