Samsung's
definitely up to some serious strategery for a fall / winter assault on AT&T, starting with that funky
a637 that just launched and continuing on through high-drama rumors of
Omnias, BlackJack IIIs, and pretty much everything in between. We're starting to get some solid intel on the a867, anyway, which we're told will be branded as the "Eternity" (though that name is still subject to change -- they seem to waffle on that every few minutes) when it launches next month for something in the range of $150 on contract. It looks like an Omnia, but the similarities end there; it's actually got closer ties to the
F480 since it drops WinMo in favor of Sammy's proprietary setup. Look for this one to be a head-to-head
Vu competitor, thanks to
MediaFLO support (no external antenna needed!), a 3.2-inch touchscreen, and an integrated 3-megapixel cam. It also does AGPS, includes an all-important 3.5mm headphone jack, and can swallow those new 16GB microSD cards, making it a decent media player all around (in theory, anyhow). It's also said to have a "light pipe" at the bottom -- basically a fancy status light that can be configured to show colors for new emails, text messages, and so on. Feeling a little heat on that Vu over there, LG?
looks like what the instinct should have been
Hey I just got off the phone with att and they confirmed that the samsung eternity will be launched and ready for purchase on the 14th of this month.
That looks like a nice phone. The interface looks pretty good.
It looks well-designed, but, idk, the removal of WinMo really screws it for me. I mean, even if they swapped it for another smart phone OS like Symbian, it would've been better. With such amazing hardware--HUGE capacitive touchscreen, aGPS, bluetooth, 3MP camera--it seems like a waste to have implemented a feature phone OS.
Although that price certainly enhances its appeal.
Greatly.
Same phone is to be released by T-Mobile US. It will be called the "Behold", which is worse than "Eternity".
Price point is very similar, $150 (with 2-year contract).
Since its browser is for WAP only, this T-Mobile phone can be used with the $5.99 T-Zones plan, which is a great deal (3G and all).
Yeah, I would think its great as long as Opera mini runs well on it. Nice device without a real OS though... Oh well, some people want just a phone :P
Holy crap, the Behold? No no no, put the idea ball BACK IN THE TANK!
Hmmmm,

Looks like ATT and TMo are getting on the same train...?
Thats just great. I just upgraded my phone to the Vu and now this phone is being released.
Oh well, I still have 30 days. If this phone really has the specs and ports that I want then I guess i'll have to switch out. If not, no biggy. I would still have a great phone. In addition to that, i can lose it, pay a deductible to get a new 1. Too bad you cant get insurance on the iPhone!!!
Um, good for you.
this device with android would rock!
What kinda games does the Samsung Eternity cause im trying to choose between the Lg Vu so reply on me as soon as you can thanks
