Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 unboxed, played with on video
Oh yeah, you've seen Sony Ericsson's succulent XPERIA X1 unboxed in still image form, but there's just nothing like a little unpacking on video to really whet your appetite, right? Oh, and there's also some comparison action thrown in with the HTC Touch Pro, and of course, we get to see the OS in action. Hop on past the break to have a look, but we're warning you, those who covet easily will want to restrain themselves.

Yawn... sure glad my T-Mobile G1 is about ready to ship :) The tiles are jerkily animated, and the screen takes forever to switch between portrait and landscape. MS better get going with WM7, this might generate buzz at an industry trade show, but it'll gather dust on the shelves of retail.
I dont see what you mean about the tiles being jerky. Theyre not meant to be smooth by like fading in and out, they bounce around by design. Actually, in other videos you see the little panels shaking, quite cute in my opinion lol.
The screen orientation there does take a while to switch though, but that video shows a prototype actually, some other reviews have actually said the switch is actually pretty fast.
Heres some other reviews:

The second one states the orientation switch takes approx. half a second. To me thats pretty good.
But what's so much better about the G-1??? No one seems to be able to answer that.
whats better about the g1 over the x1 is the OS. win mo 6.1 is very inferior to what i've seen (and played with at the store) on the g1 and its android operating system. but if say the x1 had android then there is no denying that the x1 would be better. its just i am a win mo user now and have become a very dissatisfied customer, its so slow and freezes up .
now say when win mo release 7.0 this might change and hopefully they address the issues people are unhappy with.
but as of right now, if i had the choice i would still take my not so pretty g1 over a very slow and clunky x1 with win mo. x1 wins the style award but g1 takes the cake with best performance and useability.
Charles, have you seen other phones with accelerometers like the Touch Pro, Diamond, and the iPhone? I'll assume you haven't because that was pretty decent compared to other phones.
And as for the tiles being "jerky", those transitions were pretty smooth for phones nowadays. I doubt you can find a phone that has those types of transitions and execute them any more smoothly. I'm sure they'll perfect it in a few months or years but hey, that's where mobile technology is now.
And as much as I like the G1, that phone does look pretty outdated compared to the Xperia. The Xperia is far more stylish and creative. And I like the more refined animation the Xperia has compared to the simple UI of the current version of Android. I would compare it to TouchFlo3D. I like Android and all but it's not that big on style and detail. And sure, I will end up with an Android phone eventually, but it sure won't be the G1. Compared to phones like this (Xperia), the G1 pretty much sucks as far as physical appearance is concerned. Android? Awesome. G1? Not so much.
Pretty old, same as the one here: http://translate.google.se/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mobilmania.cz%2FTitulni-strana%2FXperia-X1-vesmirny-dlazdic-velke-preview%2FUvod-konstrukce-pristroje-displej-a-Iluminace%2Fsc-21-sr-1-a-1120389-ch-1041244%2Fdefault.aspx&sl=cs&tl=en&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8
Note that its actually still a prototype, probably the last prototype before final, but still a prototype. You can tell by the sticker in one of the pictures showing the battery compartment.
Also, the actual box looks a bit different. Just look at the other, newer, unboxing that was on engadget.
Still nice to watch, but I just wanted to point that out.
The X1 is made by HTC but just the body. Sony Ericsson had to implement the OS and software which by this prototype does not look smooth. All of HTC's Touch line prototypes were smooth. The Touch HD is going to own. It took over a year and a half for the Top Dogs to catch up to the iPhone but from here on out people will start realizing the iPhone is a piece of shit compared to what's coming ahead. I cant wait to sell my Gayphone 3G for the Touch HD.
Yikes! This device looks awesome, but it's OS is VERY slow! Just look at the end of the video and see how it slows down when trying to flip panels.
I'm going to pass this - HTC HD, here I come!!! :)
Hehe... the X1 is made by HTC :P
is the touch screen capacative or not?
Nope... not capacitive; WinMo can't do capcitive -- the handwriting recognition, ink-notes, etc, wouldn't work (not that they work very well anyway). WM7 is rumored to work with capacitive, though not sure how the inknotes/handwriting will be dealt with.
For the user who felt the tiles animated 'just fine'; watch the video again, starting around 2:50 -- but -- this time wear your glasses :)
Looks super-duper slow. Look for the HTC Touch HD instead. ;)
If you live in a country that sells it, I guess. Otherwise, there's no hope for those in the US who wants one because HTC officially stated that they won't be releasing the Touch HD in the US. I guess you could always import one if you had the money though. Meh.
Engadget, when is this phone coming out in the US? Or is it coming out in the US at all?
Yes cause engadget knows all lol.

(Eh, second half of post got cut off..)
Thats the official X1 blog site.
Q&A2 says US has to wait till Nov. 3rd for an announcement.
