Mobile Gmail goes 2.0 for J2ME and BlackBerry phones
Right about this time last year, Google updated its mobile Gmail client to be leaner, meaner and altogether more awesome. Now, we're looking at version 2.0 of the app for use with J2ME-supported and BlackBerry phones. The team behind it rethought how mobile users interacted with Gmail, and they attempted to provide solutions for each instance in which your connection may be spotty. Furthermore, the entire client was made to operate faster and be more reliable than ever, and there's even support for keypad shortcuts, multiple drafts, undo, 35 languages and background mail sending. Hop on past the break for a demo vid, or better yet, just point your handset to m.google.com/mail and have a look for yourself.

Why again would you use the Gmail Java client over BIS/BES?
I much prefer the gmail app to POP3/IMAP.
Because if you use the Gmail app, you get **instant* access to your e-mail. BIS/BES will always have slowdowns at some point. You're adding another server, there will be periodic backups.
Because sometimes it's nice to have access to your starred messages, your GMail contacts, or even to be able to search through half a decade worth of e-mails.
Because if your BB device is a corporate one, you can use this client to access your private email, and keep private and corporate separate. It's a great app, perfect for keeping the two mailboxes separate.
Cheers
hmm nice app, but the german version contains a spelling mistake in the sentence which is automatically added to a message: "message sent from mobile". This sentence can not be edited.
in german false "Von meinen Mobilgerät aus gesendet"
correct "Von meinem Mobilgerät aus gesendet"
:/
Hasn't this been out for a while now?
J
Yeah, 2.0.5 has been out for a bit. This update is 2.0.6
Multiple Gmail accounts. Now that is something the web client SHOULD have!
Sure it's "instant access," but I've always found the GMail client to be very slow to work with. I don't want to be waiting for it to load just to scroll through messages when they're already on my default inbox.
It won't give me the download link on my phone, it just goes in circles between 2 pages. Boo.
Anyone have any luck on a Sprint M1 by chance?
Just wondering if you ever found a way to download version 2 with the sanyo m1. I couldn't get it to work either.
I prefer the Gmail app to integration with the native mail app. I use BES to get corporate email on the phone, and I don't want the two to mix. In addition, the Gmail app integrates better with the service than the IMAP integration anyway.
Wow, the app is really much faster. Even on my super slow KRZR it runs extremely smooth.
Still untrusted on my tmo phone :/
