AT&T kicks off BlackBerry Bold sales on the web
Some stores have already let a few slip out the door a day early, but for those of us who haven't left our parents' basements since 1989, turns out there's now a sweet alternative to heading down to the brick-and-mortar. The BlackBerry Bold's now up on AT&T's site ready to ship for $299.99 after rebate on a two-year contract, so go ahead and whip out the plastic. If you haven't been using a Curve or an 8800 lately, prep your unsuspecting thumbs with some hardcore workouts -- and if you have been using a Curve or an 8800, get those freakishly muscular, overbuilt digits out of our sights.

About time long live the mighty Bold with wifi!! lol...
$417.00 for this thing. $417! That's before all this rebate nonsense. We'd been waiting for this phone since April, and now that it's here, they're price gauging us. I'm seriously starting to look at Verizon with a hungrier eye...[ winks at Storm ]
$400 is not unheard of for a new model bb...
$400 might not be unheard of, but $999 + $18 activation fee + tax is unheard of. I've got three lines on my account - and while two of them qualify for the Bold, the one that doesn't prices it out at $999. $1 shy of a full grand, but add in activation and tax, and you're getting close to eleven Benjamins.
$999.99 if you don't qualify for a rebate! AT&T has got to be joking!!!! Maybe I'll skip my mortgage payment this month for a Bold, probably not.
$1000? Where do you see that?
The site says $549.99 w/out plan and w/out rebate.
Read the fine print closer for how to qualify for the $549 price. Or you can just add it to your cart and see if it says $549 or $999. If you've just gotten a phone from AT&T recently, it's going to change to $999 when you sign in to your account and try to upgrade.
There was a brief problem with my ATT Premier page, so I called Business Care to order the device at 8:20am EST and was told it was already sold out and on backorder. I got my Premier page fixed and was able to place an overnight order, I guess the question now is whether it will actually ship.
It's finally here!
Now where the hell am I going to get $300 for it?
*puts iPhone 3G on Ebay*
*only gets a bid of $100*
*cries*
:(
Seriously why is this phone even worth it? I've had Blackberrys before and this trumped-up 3g version with a prettier screen really doesn't add much to justify the $1000 price tag. You've got to be kidding me.
Blackberry = overpriced.
C'mon AT&T, bring on the Fuze!
Disregard my previous comment. I took Travis's comment as truth before checking the ATT site. $549 w/out contract+rebate seems reasonable.
Cornelius - Travis' comment WAS true. For folks on the Premier site, it was listed as a $999 non-eligible upgrade until just an hour or so ago. Now it reflects the $549 price point.
For those of you who had both, does the 3G Bold drop calls as much as the iPhone 3G??. That's what I want to know, because my understanding is it's AT&T network related. If the Bold doesn't drop calls, I am switching.
I placed my Bold order this morning, so I can't yet comment on that... However, in my household I do have 3 different ATT 3G phones (iPhone 3G, LG Shine, and Tilt) and a couple EDGE BlackBerries as well (8310 and 8110). The iPhone is BY FAR the flakiest, and drops calls the most. Every friend and family member I have spoken to who also has an iPhone 3G experiences similar call drops, failed signal fixes, and general crappiness. All of these iPhones are up to date with the newest available software, and used in varying signal strength conditions.
I just hope the Bold lives up to my 8310, and I hope I don't regret not waiting for the Javelin / Curve 8900. I'd forgo 3G for the smaller form factor with no question.
Just got my Bold this morning and I have not dropped a call yet. Pretty snazzy phone if I do say so myself.
i am in chicago and bought the bold today, this thing has phone call problems! calls are constantly being dropped, and it seems to be whenever en email comes in! very annoying, been happening all day on the 3G service. is this a problem they hoped to avoid?
Just got my bold a couple of hours ago. Att even gave me $50 off. I have only had it for 4 hours now, and I do have to say its by far the best blackberry yet. I am simply amazed. Call quality is night and day compared to my 8800. I love this thing.
