HTC MAX 4G officially announced, world's first GSM / WiMAX phone
Hey Sprint, you listening? Granted, GSM doesn't do Sprint a whole lot of good in the States, but swapping a CDMA radio into HTC's first WiMAX effort here would make for a downright mighty response to the Touch HD. The previously-seen T8920 has turned out to be the MAX 4G, an 800 x 480 monster with 8GB of Flash on board, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE, and -- most importantly -- WiMAX support, making it the first GSM / WiMAX handset anywhere in the world. It'll be launching on Scartel's Yota network in Russia, and if you have friends cool enough to have a MAX 4G of their own, calls between the two of y'all will automatically be routed over the WiMAX airwaves using VoIP. A launch date hasn't been announced, but unless you're in Russia, there's probably not much point in even bothering to lust after this one.

.......
i think i just might need a fresh pair of pants
So this is a WIMAX and GSM phone? Huh? Why? Do all WIMAX providers also have a GSM network? Who the hell is this for anyway? Russia? WTF? I'm confused.
I think don't trust winblows.
Put Google Android on then it would suck as much.
I hit the READ link but don't see this anywhere on HTC's website... not even if I switch countries (I'm in the US)... anyone?
When I hit [Read] it takes me to a page where the G1 is advertised. I guess they caught it early on and changed the link/page.
And 5 spare batteries as the stock battery will last about 2 hour before it needs a recharge...
What I want to know is whether or not the battery will ignite in flames?
What to say....this phone looks totally awesome !!! Totally insane....
so when is this available in the US?? I am pretty sure AT&T will run to sign contract for a device as cool looking as this....
HTC products are totally cool....its a pity that the dont have a presence as Apple/RIM in the US

I highly doubt that since AT&T is going with LTE.
why do I get this feeling that they've given this phone just a 2 mp main camera just so that people will still buy their Touch HD.
I get the feeling that this phone will cost more than a new camera and G1.
It costs 28990 roubles as for now. This is about 1 057 us$, according to Google.
And Yota is WiMax-only provider, so you can use ur GSM sim-card you already have without no limits.

I am also fairly certain global 4G = LTE and not WiMax, good luck with that venture. Props for the battery life note.. I am certain no matter when size battery you put in it, it won't make it through a day on a charge... maybe on standby.
The Touch HD is better looking. HTC gets me so mad and leaves me in a pickle. I am on Sprint with a Sprint SERO plan where I pay $30 + tax and my contract ends on in March. If I extend my contract before March I can keep my current low rates, if not I would have to pay anywhere from $69 to $99 dollars with Sprint. My current phone is the Moto Q (windows mobile 5 is trash) but I want a GOOD touch screen phone (not the Instinct which I can say from first hand use has slow and unattractive menus
compared to the iPhone) and HTC's Touch HD looked perfect, this phone wouldn't be terrible either but with HTC not releasing this or the Touch HD in the US I am S.O.L. Once my contract is up looks like I will be heading to Verizon for the Storm or AT&T for the iPhone 3G. Looks like Sprint is the last of the big US cell providers to not carry a premium touchscreen phone (
I am the Sprint Touch Pro. Why must you insult me so?
Umm...Touch Diamond and Touch Pro on Sprint are pretty dominant...I'm just sayin!
Why dont you give the Diamond or the Touch Pro a chance?
This phone will have a 5 mega-pixel camera, standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, and still cary the accelerometer
I think this thing absolutely rocks!
You can always turn off the WiMAX option when you dont need the service, but just to have the feature on the phone is amazing. I simply cant believe that you can cram SOO many features onto the same chipset...in such a small package!... :)
Yes, you are right.
-5 MPx Cam
-3.5mm audio jack
-VIDEO OUT [something i cant believe they have NOT put into the Touch HD]

maybe this can be the upgrade to my diamond hehe
Ha! They've removed even MORE hard buttons. Only a home button now, not even an "ok". Idiots...
Ehh... an upgraded Diamond/Touch HD. Pop in a keyboard, Windows 7.0, and a more powerful cpu then the qualcomm crap thats been out there maybe you'll do good with this..... maaaybe.....
it would be interesting to see if this would work on the wimax network sprint has in baltimore right now
and if this were to come to the states it would probably be picked up by sprint given they are the works going in the area of wimax as a 4g tech and i think verizon is boarding either wimax or lte
I watched one of the videos (though it was in Russian and I didn't understand much) adn it looked quite smooth for a Windows Mobile powered device. You could watch TV many channels on it and it looked pretty good. I don't think you can do that on 3G networks, at least not at that speed and video quality. WiMAX is a winner when it comes to wireless video applications.

HTCs look great on paper and even in store windows, but once you try to use them you are in for a big let down.
I thought that I would get myself a nice HTC touch pro to usec while waiting for the new much hyped HTC HD to turn out; but in just a couple of weeks of using the Touch Pro I developed such a deep hate for that buggy , illogical and irritating thing that I sold it for a considerable loss and I also canceled my order for the HTC HD.
Now I bought a Samsung i900 Omnia and I love it. It really is the best cell phone on the market bar none, even though among all the unique features and apps that Samsung packed into the Omnia, it forgot a very basic and quite useful function found in most cheap phones nowadays: since it's based on win mobile 6.1 let's hope someone will develop a voice dialer/ voice tags app for the mighy Omnia.
Um, you are aware that you can swap/install all the software/apps/utilities/skins between almost all winmo phone? You know, it's not called a PocketPC for nothing.
So, basically the only differentiating factor is the hardware itself.
That is, if you're capable of googling stuff. If you have trouble with that better stick with feature phones, much less frustration.
@ Kosmarnik
The hardware is not a minor detail dude, and don't you think that just because you've got a win mobile device you can install and use any program and app you' ve seen in other win mobile devices.
Just an exemple: as a remedy to Samsung inexcusable failure to install a voice dialing program in the Omnia i900 ( the american Omnia i910 has got voice command) I tried to install MS voice commander (the same program found in the Omnia i910) but it will not work, I installed Cyberon Speesd dialer, and it works, but if you want to start a call from a bluetooth headset you first have to push a button on the phone itself (button that you must assign to this function by installing another program to do this).
The very same program on the HTC touch HD (yes I bought that one too in the end) works seamlessly and lets you start a call directly from the BT headset.
Moreover the Omnia has the little mini mouse/mousepad which is genial and you won't find that anywhere else, totally changing the way you use the phone since you don't need a stylus anymore.
The Omnia has a flash so its pics taken indoors are still OK.
Try as mush as you want but you will never manage to make the Touch Wiz system work on any phone which isn't a Samsung: this touch wiz actually performs the miracle of making win mobile fun and easy to use, and being much, much lighter than touch Flo does'nt slow the OS nearly as much.
That said I bought also a touch HD because the HD bigger screen makes it easier to use and much more finger friendly than the touch pro, and because the latest fixes, patches and programs made for the HD transformed the experience of using touch flo from constant frustration to near joy.
Nonetheless , since I need 2 phones, one for work and one for private use, there's been a period when I considered the possibility of buyng 2 identical Omnias.
Now I would be hard pressed to say if I like better my Omnia or my touch HD:
The Omnia has the genial minimouse, touch wiz, and a flash, and it comes with 3 years of route66 maps&GPS, it's better built with better materials, has a better accelerometer(even after I installed Gyrator2 and Gsen on the HD) and its battery lasts twicw as much.
The Touch HD has the best screen which is specially important if one surfs the web whith the phone as much as I do and to use the device as a car GPS (among other things), and a BT voice control software that works 100% ( you can start a call directly from the BT headset without having to push a button on the phone as on the Omnia), moreover on such a big screen even Touch Flo becomes user friendly.
BUT, my opinion on the HTC diamond and touch pro is still unchanged: they both suck very big time.

Try the above link... I just visited the site.
and woohoo, another touchy phone. They make such beaty's these days, and they all infect them with the WinMobile 5++ virus. Let's hope this baby get's android or something like that, or it will be as slow and painfull as the HTC Touch Diamond, the MDA Vario, and all the other sweet little devices with that awfull OS...
Perhaps someone could call apple and ask if they wanna make the OS for it?
