Cellphones are dangerous/not dangerous: leaky fillings edition
We're not even going to pretend we fully grasp what's going on here, but the long and short of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences' latest findings are that cellphones can trigger the release of mercury from one's fillings. Yes, seriously. The study asserts that out of 14 test subjects with fillings, those who used mobile phones had a statistically significant increase of mercury from urine tests than those who refrained from yapping. The science behind all of this is far beyond our IQ levels, but we're a little freaked out/not freaked out, regardless.[Via textually]

I keep hearing that cellphones can cause cancer, but now they can release mercury from fillings? Ouch, good thing I don't have any fillings.
...and the moral of the story is.....brush your teeth more often.
Only the iPhone caused the leaks all other cell phones did not according to the study.
If you care dont use a cell phone, if you dont, Move on.
Or get composite fillings, instead of amalgam.
The amount of Hg released is insignificant to health with or without the additional radiation of the phone or MRI. It was in the discussion of the article.
I was pretty sure that science established that mercury was bad in the body before cellphones every came out....
Good thing they've stopped using mercury in fillings then.
Now can somebody with knowledge of statistics please tell me if 14 people is a big enough sample for this study to have any value at all. My gut says no, but I don't remember the math to prove it.
