Alltel releases the HTC Touch Pro
Alright T-Mobile, seriously, how can you charge $299.99 for a Wing on contract with a straight face (do carriers have faces?) while every single one of your competitors is rocking a device that's essentially two generations fresher for the same price? Alltel becomes the latest to add HTC's quintessential WinMo QWERTY smartphone to its stable, charging $279.99 for the privilege of adding a Touch Pro to your account on contract after $100 rebate. From the looks of things, it's basically Sprint's version with a tweaked version of the TouchFLO 3D UI that's either prettier or uglier than the stock build, depending on your point of view. Let's be honest, though: doesn't everything look good in VGA resolution?

the turquoise and the red buttons mkaes this thing like someone thats fresh off the boat. u know like the people that wear track pants with dress shoes lol.
terrible colour combo.
The red stands out against the black keys, and the turquoise is just one of many color schemes you can select within the UI. Fresh off the boat? Wow, borderline racism aside, this phone is the latest and greatest in the CDMA realm, and I for one am stoked.
Well at least they didn't fuck up the keyboard layout like Verizon did (even though..... they are now part of VZW) by putting the up arrow in between the N and M.
Wonder if they crippled the RAM like VZW did.
unfortunately, it looks as though they have stripped wi-fi feature. What is the matter with these people? Does anyone know if it can be turned on, through a rom edit?
I am SO happy you mentioned that. I thought i was the only one that noticed. how lame Verizon
this thing has been out for almost a month on their website. wtf is wrong with these people.
The HTC Touch Pro became available to buy today. The HTC Touch Diamond has been on there and available to buy for a while now.
i think u should learn the definition of racism. how can u use that term when i did not say a specific race? thank you
secondly usually blacks do that foolishness. and i am black so i can make that joke. and its a t errible colour choice. they should have selected turquoise paint fopr the keys that would have made sense. or even white. dont say it cant be done cuz theres right now green for some carriers red for others and i think one more colour i cant remember
like kc said,
you can choose many different home themes for WM devices. It could be black, blue, yellow, red, pink, whatever you want.
provided you can get a theme generator that will work with the screen resolution of course.
red is used to make the alt functions on the keypad standout. my i760 is all white markings on the kayboard.
Which foolishness are you referring to? For the life of me I can't remember the last time I saw "blacks" doing that.
So, since Alltel and Verizon are sharing the same bed these days, anyone else think it's a good idea to go get one of these which is not only cheaper, but not gimped like the VZW version?
That's what I'm thinking but they haven't completely 'merged' yet, so I don't think you could activate it on VZW right away.
Verizon's network is supposedly "open" now, meaning you can hook up almost any CDMA phone on their network, regardless off its originating carrier.
I'm looking to do this soon, but from what I've heard it still depends on which customer service rep you get. My friend got a Touch Pro on Sprint and he's selling me his Mogul, and hopefully if all goes well I'll be able to use it on Verizon. Do you know of anyone who has switched a phone from another carrier to Verizon?
Sure, go to ppcgeeks.com for dozens of examples...
to "Riley Freeman":
Being a minority doesn't preclude you from bigotry.
However, if it did, how are we to know? By your assumed name and non-specific avatar in the comment section of a tech blog?
this is why I think we need a sarcasm button.
ok, why is everyone bickering over the dang color scheme & rascism (really?) when we're allignoring the bigger issue here: why the heck
does Tmobile appear to be the only darn cell company on earth that is NOT carrying the TouchPro when it was the first carrier out the gate
with the MDA!?!? I (speaking as a tmo customer off contract) am easing my way out of the tmo door. customer service is great, but phone selection has gone down the tubes. Last check, they have the Wing (like engadget said,STILL $299 for a phone thats 2 gens old!?!), the Dash, the Shadow & now the G1.
I called loss retention & bitched about the lack of good phone options & threatned to leave, & all the guy would do is offer me a G1 for $179 (the off the shelf price!!!) i was pissed....now i have to decide which phone im willing to switch carriers for..the TouchPro, Omnia, or dare i say it..Iphone! *sigh* if only the TOUCH HD was coming here, i could have already given my first born & wouldnt have these problems..
