T-Mobile G1s now shipping with 3.5mm headphone adapters included
It's not going to somehow magically conjure a jack where there's currently nothing more than a sad-looking ExtUSB port, but new G1 buyers can take some solace in the knowledge that they'll be able to plug in, turn it up, and tune out right out of the box. We've received official word from HTC that 3.5mm headphone adapters for the ExtUSB port are now being bundled with the phone, meaning you won't be stuck with that janky (no, seriously, it's insanely terrible) headset with the special connector that you get free of charge; after all, when we're blasting the Jonas Brothers at full tilt, we need the kind of fidelity that only high-end earbuds can provide. What, you got a problem with that?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

no love for the early adopters? how do i get mine ex post facto? hello?
and it's not the cheap kind either. It's the nice HTC one with a mic built in and a button for controlling the call
The one I got with my G1 last week only supports 2.5mm headsets. The mic and call button adapter is less usable for me. I have many 3.5mm headsets that I've been using since I got my Samsung i600 that won't work with the phone directly, and won't work with the included adapter. As I see it, I'm going to still have to go out and get the 3.5mm adapter. But if that's what they are now including...
WAIT!
You mean to tell me that HTC puts that thing on the Goog phone too?
Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
Asinine! Unless HTC start selling a really high0end set of earbuds cum microphone.
This is great. Would we be able to use this on the our old HTC phones with miniUSB as well?
Yes, you can use the same adapter with any miniusb connector on other HTC phones. I have one and it is the same exact one, and was fairly cheap at around $10 including shipping.

Yes, early adpters seems to get the sting at the end but we should be compensated by also recieving the adapter "FREE". Can anyone tell me who I should sens my gripe to?
Once again loyalty to a company: Apple, Sony, T-Mobile etc always end up biting the early adopters in the butt. The people who preordered should have received some love from T-Mobile for buying a product on faith and hype. The very least HTC or T-Mobile can do is offer the people who bought the G1 early; is give them an adapter or a voucher for an accessory of their choosing. come on HTC,T-Mobile stop screwing your loyal customers!
