You know, if you think about it, what's so bad about a 3-year contract? I've been with T-Mobile for 5-years, and haven't looked back. If you find a carrier you're happy with, then so what if you're on contract?
I agree with you in theory, I've been with AT&T for a number of years. However, I also want the option to jump ship at any time without penalty. Suppose they institute a stupid fee or policy that I do not agree with, or double my rates, etc.
Then in that case you are then able to jump ship, if they raise rates.
