Video: Android rocking on the HTC Touch
If you're anything like us, you've been waiting for Android to work its way onto basically every device you own, so this video of the plucky open source OS getting busy on an HTC Touch is an encouraging glimpse of the future. Work has actually been going on for a while now, but this is the best we've seen so far --it's all there, including a custom soft keyboard, and it looks like it runs pretty well, although we're told there are some issues with scaling the UI to QVGA and that GPS, Bluetooth and USB aren't operable yet. The hack is actually available, and you don't have to be too daring to try it out -- all it takes is a restart to go back to WinMo. Who's taking the plunge?

Wonder if we can get this working on the htc 6800...
Got a touch Pro from Verizon and one of the first things I did was head to the XDA forums to see how far along they are.
Things are looking pretty great for android, at least for HTC devices. I welcome the day when we have more of an OS choice.
My touch Pro is a beautiful device, but just as slow at menu navigation as my 2002 pda, Winmo doesnt seem to have gotten much faster in the interim. An easy to use OS that can be ported to new devices? MS and other walled garden OS providers should really take notice.
If this is working on the Touch, its only a short time until it works on the Touch Diamond (Pro). In other words, sweet!
Thats running pretty smoothly. I am looking forward to an iphone port :)
Yea, this isn't new. dzo has been working on this for a while now while dcordes has been working to get this on the Kaiser. From a post on the XDA Kaiser forum it seems like dzo is going to start working on the Kaiser port after the new year.
Yea.. ive been keeping up with it over at xda too.. Its great progress.. not too long before it completely replaces winmo i hope :)
Apparently someone has already figured out how to make android work on the titan.....check out this link......http://magister.ipsys.net/projects/android-for-titan/
I'm downloading as we speak!!!!!
ive been testing these betas on my touch for awhile...
not enough buttons on the phone to make it completely user friendly,
and not as smooth as the g1.
but its nice for bragging rights ;)
I installed on my Verizon Touch. It works! when u power down in android, you power up in WinMo.
I didn't activate the phone to test calls, but it sees signal accurately. Bluetooth didn't work. working on getting some apps on it.
turned my backup Touch into a sweet Ipod/picture viewer. wish the touch had wifi!!
What build were you using and from where?
*crosses fingers*
please please come to the HTC HD......
I was able to get this running on a Sprint Touch with the ability to browse the menus etc. It does detect the charger. However, the device locks up when you try to type in a number to dial. It couldn't detect an incoming call either. But in all it's cool to see Android 1st hand without having to get a G1.
Make sure your on the latest sprint radio 3.42.30. If not, upgrade to it with the sprint WM 6.1 update.
