Skype launches v2.5 Beta for Windows Mobile
If you've been stuck in 2.2.0.45 land wondering when Skype was ever going to be more stable and easier to hear, well, so have lots of others. Available now, the v2.5 Beta promises "improved sound quality" and "better stability" to go along with a "familiar Skype design," though details beyond that are being kept under wraps. Both the smartphone (2.5.0.109) and Pocket PC (2.5.0.108) versions have been updated, so why not tap the read link and get your upgrade on? Unless everything's working just fine for you -- you know what they say about fixing things that aren't broken.

I just installed it.. runs pretty smooth compared to earlier versions.. but I'm still forced to use speakers as a headset.. We need BT/Wired Handsfree support!!
Man why dont they launch one for Symbian S60v3 platform?
if only the states had the infrastructure to support front facing cameras!
errrrrrrrrrrr NO BLUETOOTH support still............HTC Mogul.....
Guys- if you researched this problem on just about any forum, you'd know all you need is an audio-gateway app like acbAudioToggle or BTAudio.
It takes all current sound input/output, and routes it to a headset. Also good for listening to music over a standard headset, if you don't mind crappy mono sound in headset quality. I've been doing this with skype for over 3 years on my PPC.
As far as WHY it doesn't work on the internal speaker... well, hardware manufacturers design their own internal speaker routines. That speaker isn't a standard API and so the software developers really don't have access to it. If they supported one device, it wouldn't work on another, etc- they'd have to build an individual version for every phone out there.
The loudspeaker is a standard device in WM (all PPCs, even before phone edition, had full audio support), so Skype can access that.
Another useful trick: if your speaker is high up on the back of the device (such as in the Mogul/ PPC6800), turn the volume down to like, level 1 or 2, then hold the phone backwards during skype calls. Works just like the normal phone speaker then!
This is why I will never own a iPhone. Once they get Skype and it can be used over the 3G network i'm switching. Windows mobile is where it's at for right now. Same issue with Laptop PC tethering...
