Verizon's G'zOne Boulder now shipping with front speaker
Yeah, you read that correctly. Now shipping with a front speaker. If you'll have a look at the original version (after the break) and compare the front to the image you see above, it's easy to spot the difference. With no rhyme, reason or official announcement, Casio has apparently started shipping VZW a refreshed version of the rough and tough G'zOne Boulder. According to the owner of this here mobile, the model number now sits at C711ORXB, though the significance of that is anyone's guess. We know, your "old" Boulder now feels totally inadequate -- shame a simple software update can't bring it up to speed.

Oh there is "reason"
The original had awful sound quality from the earpiece as well as a useless speakerphone. Someone at Casio or
VZW noticed that people who want a "rugged" phone aren't exactly the type of people who work in a library-quiet enviroment.
Hopefully they will swap the users of the older models out with this "update"
I just bought a brand new G'z 1 Boulder Orange on Friday and they gave me the old version. I am having problems with it rebooting, and it froze one time, and the power button didn't work.... I had to take out the battery and put it back in to power up the phone. Verizon has no explanation. They don't even know of the new Boulder with frontal speaker, and the update in software!!! Amazing. Tech Support at VZW had no clue, but they agreed to look into it. I copied this picture above and emailed it to VZW Tech Support. They are looking into this matter. Other than that, the phone is fully loaded... GPS, MVP, PTT, Music, Celluar Video, everything is tough as nails and first class. There is just a tiny bug in the Boulder's Software. Please fix this Casio, I love my phone and don't want to trade it in. Also, it would be great to be offered at least a discount on the new Boulder with update and Frontal Speaker!!! The battery quality is good, but it needs charged daily. Verizon sales the old and new with 2 batteries!!! So that takes care of my battery issues. Thanks Mikey/PA
G'zOne = Jizzy One
looks like someone should have left that load on the mattress...
You don't know what the fuck you're talking about! The G'zOne Type-V was a first class phone now with this updated speaker this will be one of verizon bests handsets in a long! Not everyone need the Internet in their pocket dumbass!
Haha. Gross.
@Cellenator- Some of us don't like getting 2-year-old recycled phones. Compare the W62CA (the current G'zone model) to the Boulder- yeah.
Cool! I got a brand new Boulder two days ago and no speaker! :(
Might explain why I ordered the orange one and was later emailed that it was no longer available (then went with the black one).
the "XB" designation just means "eXtended Battery". notice that of the backs you see, one is for a standard battery and the other is for the larger extended battery. it's only available thru B2B (business, as it were), but I'm sure that normal everyday folks will get it by mistake. oh, if only reps took the time to read before putting the orders thru.
oh, and all the newer Boulders are being shipped with the new speaker configuration. not to mention that there is a decibel increase of something like 10dB. I think there's a few other things, but mostly to the functionality of the speakerphone due to PTT.
You don't have to be a business customer, geez the amount of bs on here. Anyone can buy this phone! rolling eyes
I love it when people talk about things they know little about. Here's the deal with the Boulder. There was complaints of sound quality on the Boulder which VZW listened to. They had PCD Formerly known as UT Starcom formerly known as Audiovox(you know the people that ACTUALLY manufacture the phone... casio just brands the thing) work on a better speaker and VOILA the front speaker was born. Now if you currently own a Boulder and would like the front speaker its real easy to get one. Step 1 make sure you have Push To Talk active on your phone. Step 2 walk into a Verizon Wireless store. Step 3 complain to the technician or rep that you can't stand the sound quality and you heard there was a replacement boulder with a better speaker. Step 4 Give tech/rep your correct shipping address. Step 5 Sign a few things. Step 6 Go home and wait two days for your beautiful new Boulder to arrive. (now mind you this is the way it is in the midwest. Outside of the midwest I haven't a clue) And as for the 2 batteries, if I walk into the inventory room when I get to work tomorrow and open a G'Zone Boulder I will find 2 batteries inside. It's not just a B2B thing... at least not in the midwest anyways....
"They had PCD Formerly known as UT Starcom formerly known as Audiovox(you know the people that ACTUALLY manufacture the phone... casio just brands the thing)"
which is why
"There was complaints of sound quality on the Boulder".
Because Casio makes the Japan models themselves (which is probably why they have such impressive feature sets like 2.7-inch screens, A2DP, TV, their own version of Nike+, etc compared to the US models). Why they decided to outsource manufacturing is beyond me and very stupid of them, and also results in incidents like these.
"I love it when people talk about things they know little about"...
right back at ya... when you get to work, read the equipment guide. right there in the info for the XB version is a notice that it's b2b only. the "regular" version still comes with 2 batteries, but they are both standard. the picture for this article shows a standard and an extended battery, hence my statement. I didn't mention the "regular" version because that's not what's pictured, and the editor questioned the significance of model C711ORBXB.
Click this (or cut n paste) : http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3988 . It takes you to the consumer listing for the Boulder on the VZW website. In the "Accessories" tab, it says... and I quote... "2 Standard Lithium–Ion Batteries (810 mAh)". You can look around all you want, but you won't find the XB version listed because it's B2B ***ONLY***.
next time, please do your research before you try to correct someone.
This is actually a refreshed model actually....It not only has a new speaker in the front but has a louder earpiece. Also comes with a back up battery obviously
Just got the upgraded version for xmas that wife bought off ebay have not tried it yet. Friends have them and i wondered why this had the extra speaker on front. i am glad to hear that it is an upgraded version, was afraid got an older version of the same phone from what friends have
I received my Boulder the day before Christmas and I absolutely love it. After ordering online I began researching the G'z One Boulder and found an overwhelming number of complaints stating bad audio, short battery life and poor speaker quality. My research also revealed a brand new released version of the Boulder that addressed all these concerns plus comes with new an improved software updates. I contacted my online provider to make sure that was the version I was receiving. When I got the new version Boulder I was pleasantly please with its appearance and weight. The new version comes with an external front mounted speaker, two batteries (one standard and one extended life) and handset cradle. The activation and contact transer was a breeze using Verizons Backup Assistant. The audio/sound, speakerphone quality was great (phone volume at medium). The extended battery last several days but is hardly an issue because the convenient desktop handset cradle easily keeps the phone charged not to mention it provides a great phone rest for listening to your favorite music right from your phone. The phone features are great including the really cool push to talk feature.
The Military specs are what hooked me on this phone in the first place. I'm a firefighter and a very outdoors kinda of guy so this phone is perfect for my lifestyle. I looks tough, feels tough and is tough. I even used it to listen to tunes while taking a shower the other day and it performed great during and afterwards.
If I had to say anything bad about this phone it would be that keys are little small including the PTT key and the camera has a relatively slow capture on it. But overall I love this phone. So ignore any review you read for this phone posted prior to Dec 17, 2008 and go out and get this phone. Make sure when ordering you are getting the latest version though.
Answer to my worries, bro!
I just ordered mine today.
I just got the new G'zOne Boulder and so far I like it. The rugged factor is why I bought it being that my profession is a full-time firefighter and plus the fact that I am just plain rough on phones. Between the elements with the fire department and me, my good ol' Samsung A930 just wouldn't handle it past next month. I haven't subjected the G'zOne to the fire dept. elements yet, but haven't had any problems thus far with the activation and normal usage. Though I'm not too fond of the appearance with the speaker out front compared to the old look, the sound is clear regarding both music and voice using the speaker phone function and loud if you turn the volume up. It is a bit bulky to flip open, but it wouldn't be a rugged phone if it wasn't slightly bulky. Overall, I think it was a good phone to go with and I look forward to seeing how it does at work!
BTW I like the fact that it came with an extended battery in addition to the standard battery-for the Orange Boulder-and a customizable ring as well. Well, one of two to choose from.
Thanks for using my picture.
The new Boulder is indeed much better.
