Google secretly crafts Android codename "cupcake," fixes and features aplenty
Okay, so right here: this is where Android starts to get awesome. The platform is being hacked and developed at a blistering pace that closed operating systems can only dream of, and to top it all off, Google's now gifted the world with a bunch of changes it had been developing in secrecy in a private branch called "cupcake." Why "cupcake," you ask? We're not sure, but given the list of fixes and additions we're seeing here, we can only assume it has something to do with how tasty it's going to be once it gets rolled into a shipping firmware. For starters, it rolls in circa-November WebKit code and significantly boosts browsing performance, fixes a novel's worth of issues with the email app, and -- wait for it -- adds support for stereo Bluetooth. Of course, we're at the mercy of T-Mobile and HTC for getting this onto retail G1s, so it really makes a strong case for picking up a Dev Phone 1, doesn't it?[Via Android Community, thanks Ben F.]

hi mom
Fail.
Hi, dad.
Android's getting there. I will put up with my crappy old phone if it means shiny new Android phones in '09. Maybe a few upgrades to the OS are in order as well.
What the fuck does tmobile have to do with rolling out the updates - was tmo responsible for those other updates to RC18-30? Tmo best not handle this like the Sidekick OTA's, because that was a FAIL OF DESTINY.
Give me a software KB too, and this shit will be sick. I dont care what phone its on... just give me more android on more hardware :)
G1 for now... oPhone looks nice, and we are rolling.
The 'cupcake' branch includes the addition of SIM Application Toolkit 1.0 which the roadmap says "will enable the SIM to initiate actions for various operator-specific value-added services." Who else thinks this is the feature allowing paid apps? This might be what allows the market app to initiate billing to T-Mobile accounts.
Just a thought.
Hope so, they said paid apps were coming in Jan or Feb, looking forward to it because there's a few developers holding off releasing their apps until then (like satnav!)
Maybe 'cupcakes' signify how sweet of an update it's going to be...
2 questions:
1) Does this cake have anything to do with Seinfeld?
2) Is it a lie?
