Samsung's Android phone hitting Sprint and T-Mobile by June
Without a doubt, 2009 is destined to be the year of The Android. Samsung just announced its ticket to the party with a Q2 launch of its Android phones on both Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile in the US. Apparently, the touch-screen device will be an adaptation of the Omnia (Korea's 800 x 480 pixel version please) and Instinct. In other words, a rectangle with a full-screen display and minimal set of buttons just like every other touchscreen device out there. In case you missed it, this game is no longer about the hardware.

HOLY CRAP! THE DIGITAL AND ANALOG CLOCKS MATCH IN THIS PICTURE!
Is Sprint going to add myfaves in new android phone? :P
No, thats just a picture of the T-Mobile G1's screen pasted onto the Instinct... thats why the clocks match
I don't know that it's not about the hardware @ all. I think that buttons & well placed functionality is still important on the physical part. Nokia's done a pretty good job w/ the 5800. I like the media button & the lock toggle a lot. It's a little creaky though.
The best network (Sprint) and soon to be the best OS (Android) are going to be an amazing combination. I can't wait.
Ok, maybe I'm not getting the joke, but are you serious? Sprint? wow, they are on the road to being nothing, very soon.
I'm with you.. tho I'd prefer a phone with more screen realestate. Enough of this bezel crap on phones... i want edge to edge.. like the iphone! The little things mean the most !
But i just hope they don't pull some shit like they did with the instinct and charge people $80 to use it... i still have my SERO plan and im quite happy with it. If i'm forced to pay $80/mo for a phone.. ill just go get the real iphone and be done with it.
That picture was never meant to represent the actual device... If you read up a lil bit you would see that the actual device is based on the samsung omnia which is not on sprint or tmobile, so they used a samsung touch screen device that had a sprint or tmobile logo... lol Man you guys just spout off at the ass lol
Come on ppl this is not a real phone is a mockup of the g1 screen on the instincts body......oh yea android is going 2 take over next year!!!
Is HTC scared yet?
I doubt it, considering that they are ahead of the curve with the G1.
Its about G-D time that Sprint gets Android, werent they one of the backers of that anyway?
If they come out with an Instinct (thats not limited like the normal one) that would be nice, it would be even more nice if I could delete the software and install Android.
You just may be able to do that, I know they want Android OS on as many phones as possible and Google has certainly not ruled out being able to install it on current phones once there is a way to!

Whoa, Sprint's still gonna be around in June?!
Come on...congrats on the 1,945,923,428 joke against Sprint on engadget...
I'd give anything to port Android onto this crappy Instink. Oh well, I should have known better. Anyway, I'll just wait for my dream phone. 3-4 inch screen WVGA, slide out (or whatever new invention they come up with) keyboard, running on 4G/WiMAX and the Android OS. Yeah.. drool.
He'll yeah that would be absolutly sweet. And If it all worked on my SERO plan, that would be prime.
oh shit, there goes the planet
You know i guess i will have to wait until some company decides to make a sleek and "visually appealing" phone that runs Android. The G1 and this now are both ugly and Mediocre i wonder when will we see "Top Notch" Hardware running Android is that too much to ask for?
So what everyone wants basically is a less expensive version of an open iPhone running Android that works with any service provider?
I use the Sprint SERO plan. I can't find a cheaper plan with unlimited txt and data.
Road to nothing lol you guys use engadget as your only source and than dont even read the news articles about sprint that are positive. JD Powers said Sprint has a much better network than any GSM carrier and is closely behind Verizon in most areas and tied in some (like So Cal where I live) and Sprint CS rating for calling in is actually number 1. Sprint made a mistake of merging with a dead tech, Iden, thats where all the losses are coming from. Iden is 2g and almost no one else in the world uses it. So there is no support, that makes the phones more expensive, bulky, with less features than 3g phones. So the customers are leaving. At the time of the merger PTT was a major feature, now the industry has moved to slim, 3g features, and touch screens... Iden cant compete. So give it a rest sprint has a better network than all but VZW, the CS is , much better now, the prices are way lower ( I have a touch pro with more plan features than an Iphone for $30 a month), good phones are here (touch pro) and coming (android, touch hd), and 4g wimax is coming too... So please stop hating to try and validate you paying twice as much money as I do for less features.
As usual, most of the people on this message board are techno-geeks who really don't understand Sprint's business - Sprint is still No. 1 supplier to business - they leave ATT and VZW in the dust in the most profitable segment of the wireless business.
I concur with celsuis and Mike. Sprint is not as bad and everyone makes them out to be. They are the 3rd largest wireless company in the US today. Dan Hesse, I feel is doing a great job with the company and is definitely taking he company in the right direction. Sprint has the plans that are clearly a better value than "at&t" and "verizon". The service and reliability of their phones are equally competitive. They are the exclusive telephone providers of the "NFL" and "NASCAR". Verizon has "ESPN" Fantasy Football...(Please!!!) In today's economy, we all should be thinking smarter on how we invest our money. If you want to know what type of company Sprint is, please review www2.sprint.com/mr/mrhome.do
I have the good fortune of having an Omnia in my hands and albait it's running win mobile it's undoubtly the best smartphone of the solar system; now jusdt the idea of an Omnia running Android is enough to make me salivate
