Why wait for Verizon to do it? As usual, the always-vigilant WinMo community has come through with its own GPS unlock for Verizon's Touch Pro, meaning you're not locked to the VZ Navigator app -- pricey monthly fee and all -- to get your coordinate fix. The unlock's a little hacky, and the trick's author himself says that it should be characterized as a "beta," so we wouldn't recommend doing this if you rely on your Touch Pro to be spot-on perfect day in and day out -- but if you like living on the edge and you just love knowing where you are, this might be worth a shot.[Via wmpoweruser.com]

I've been running the custom ROM and GPS fix for several days now. It works like a charm. Props to |||bored||| for getting it out.
Verizon: quit crippling the $500 hardware we pay for. Note: this fix allows you to run free apps like Google Maps and Windows Live maps. It does NOT rip off from any paid VZW nav services.
Now -- let's get that FM radio unlocked!

My Touch Pro on lowly Sprint... has always provided real-time GPS functionality to the MS Live apps (as did my Touch before that). On the other hand, it has been "no dice" on either unit for such pleasures in Google Maps...
Anyone know what gives?
Was a longtime VZ person but was lured to the dark side by: 1250 anytime minutes + full data & texting @ $49.95/mo (SERO)

As the author of this fix I would just like to make a few comments on the process that unlocks the GPS on VZW. Basically my
fix is VZW PRI 1.46 recoded to allow GPS functionability. The reason it is labeled "Beta" is due to the various driver differences
in ROM bases used within the community. I have yet to identify exactly which drivers and registry keys cause these issues
because I'm purely focused on bringing the VZW community AGPS in the near future. Once that is complete, I will revert back so
investigating why certian ROM's will not allow the GPS to function and then update it from Beta status.
Any chance for an identical GPS unlock for the Samsung Saga?
GREAT PDA/Phone but for the locked VZW GPS..
