Android device sales hurting Windows Mobile sales, says HTC exec
Let's be frank, the impressive number of folks jumping ship to new OSs and other companies claiming increased smartphone market share are clear indicators that plenty of customers want something other that Windows Mobile, and the latest words out of Microsoft's largest mobile partner certainly reconfirm our suspicions. A unnamed HTC executive speaking to Smarthouse admitted that the sales of its flagship Android device are, in fact, hurting sales for HTC's Windows Mobile offerings. Now, we'll probably have to wait a bit longer for more comprehensive numbers -- if they're ever actually released -- but we have a feeling that people want something different, and Google's first dip into the mobile OS space is certainly a viable alternative.

Duh.
I'm holding off my next phone purchase until a better Android phone gets released.
2nd that. I have another year on my Verizon contract, but I hope by the end of 2009 there will be a fair share of Android devices to choose from, with one hopefully in Verizon's line-up.
Same for me. I am willing to wait as long as it takes. Just no Windows Mobile anymore.
I own the G1 and I Cannot WAIT to see the G2 and Every Carrier eventually Carry Android Phones on a Wide array of Smart and Dumb Phones!!!
The Android OS itself is Brilliant, even in this immature stage in its life.
NO MORE WIndows Mobile EVER>>>>>>>
I couldn't stand windows mobile any longer. AT&T does not offer an android device, so I made the switch to an iPhone. I'm sure glad I did. The difference is night and day. Hopefully AT&T will offer and android device soon.
Let us keep in mind that in the US at least, G1 is only on T Mobile, and what Windows Mobile competition is on that carrier. This comment could be nothing more than, yeah, the G1 is outselling the Dash and Shadow. IT is not like T Mobile is stacking up the Touch Pro against it.
I have a wInmo device and I have put Android on it and given it a test run. I look forward to a time where it is better and it may pull me off of windows mobile, but that time is surely not today.
I agree. T-Mobile is low on good WinMo devices so u cant really compare. If the G1 was on AT&T or Verizon, Im sure more people would still buy WinMo phones over it. Maybe even Blackberries would sell more who knows. T-Mobile just Sucks in phones
But the existence of Android kept me from moving from the Tilt to the Touch Pro (Fuze). So it has hurt a WinMo sale from me. I'm waiting.
I agree with Big Sam.
Its no surprise, Windows Mobile is looking dated in the age of the iPhone OS and Android. They need to get that new version out the door, and I don't mean 6.X versions. And that new version needs an App Store/Android App Store esque App delivery method, its been proven thats the killer feature.
On the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 device the Win Mobile OS works great. But i will waiting for Winows Mobile 7 .
Why do I have to be Frank, again?
Did nobody notice that Smarthouse doesn't quote or even name an executive in its story?
"The HTC executive has also admitted that the new Google offering is hurting sales of Windows Mobile devices of which HTC are the biggest maker in the world."
They don't mention any executive at all in the story, other than in that final sentence. This isn't news. There are no sources. People make stuff up, and everybody else forwards it on as fact.
I also love my G1. Great phone. would love it if it looked a little nicer, but hay, its a great phone. I see nothing but advancment of the Android OS.. Something WinMo should look out for. For years, they have been putting out junk. It always the case with MS. Always givng people junk until someone else comes along and hurts there sales so they go back to the drawing boards.
The G1 may be a great consumer device but I doubt you'll see any movement within corporate accounts - no ActiveSync support. Makes it hard to use as a business device.
