What do you need 3G for? What kind of emails exactly are you reading that require that kind of bandwidth? It has wifi if you really can find a suitable use for it.
Attachments, google maps, web surfing, finding phone numbers/addresses/locations/etc over an EDGE connection is painful, especially if you need to find something quick. Pulling up weather, radar maps can be very slow as well. I personally use blackberries for much more than just email. Just email itself is fine with EDGE, but other features can be dog slow.
