Palm CEO on bringing the Pre to Canada: "we certainly want to"
It's likely not quite the level of specificity that most would-be Canadian users are looking for, but Palm CEO Ed Colligan has at least said something about potential availability of the Palm Pre in the Great White North. Speaking with The Globe & Mail, Colligan first simply stated that, "we do have a UMTS version and a CDMA version," and that "either one of those could come to Canada depending on the carrier" but, when pressed, said that Palm has "of course" been talking to Canadian carriers, and added that "we certainly want to bring the product to Canada." So, there you have it: the Pre is coming to Canada, probably, sometime.[Via MobileSyrup.com]

I hope it goes on UMTS in Canada because they use the same frequencies for 3G as the US (since it is exclusive to Sprint in the US).
In the very same press release where Palm announced EU 3G availability, they also announced no plans for US UMTS/HSPA.
Truth's a royal bitch.

And I just happen to agree.
The title says the opposite of what their post says.
Wow!
I thought Jeremy was a male's name.
No self respecting male should even know of a site like that.
Hey Miss Jeremy try a pink phone to match your panties and purse.
I love how some people are struggling to find problems with the Palm Pre. Why?
Probably because no one has had enough time with it to find anything wrong with it. On paper, it looks amazing.
@PeterF: Why the need to simply lie? Is it your belief that readers are so lazy as to take your lying word for it?

Truth's a royal bitch.
@plh2034: I also have a niece named Jaremey. My brother and (ex-)sister-in-law had both known female Jeremys before naming her.
the pre is going to telus
why do you/engadget call Canada the great white north ALL the time?
come on...
its getting really old
What are you, twelve? That's been Canada's nickname since long before I was born. Or did you think Engadget made it up?
Take off to the Great White North eh!
okay we'll use "our gay neighbor to the north" then
No problem, provided we can use "Our Retarded Neighbour to the South" as your title. Sound good Rosey baby?
sounds fine to me fatty matty
after all we did elect barack obama
iPhone, Iphone 3g, Android, Blacberry Bold and now Storm... it ate a lot of the available market interest.
Majority of, who bought their device in the last 3-6 months are very unlikely going to jump into this and spend another $um... and unfortunately the other 90% of the marke will yet have to be converted into using smart phone.
This will put Palm in a predicament where they will be interested in getting to Canada way earlier than iPhone did.
Hopefully this device is as easy to use as their video shows and their hardware is rock solid without seriious problems with suppliers etc.
I can't wait for the Pre. If they get it up here on GSM, the iPhone might've met it's match
What part of the Palm press release did you overlook where it explained that there are no plans for North American UMTS/HSPA?
Just because they say. "we certainly want to" doesn't mean it's 100% confirmed to be actually releasing in Canada (officially).

i know it's not likely to get it up on Rogers or Fido, but i have my fingers crossed. as much as i like the iPhone,( i even got my mother one) i think this would be a better soultion for a person who's more about the power and the use of a gadget rather then the name brand.
I think palm sould just make it tri-band 3G after Sprint's "exclusivity" runs out. seems like the smarter thing to do these days
