The numbers are in for Microsoft's Windows Mobile sales in 2008 and according to Steve Balmer's keynote at CES, they sold some 20 million sets running Windows last year. It will be interesting to see how they fare this year as the competition keeps growing with Android, WebOS, Palm's Pre, and of course iPhone. We have to tell ya though, with HTC leading the charge with a
never ending flow of sweet sets, Windows Mobile will likely stay competitive throughtout his year. We've no clue what hardware's going to win this war, but we are sure that we'll hear all the Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah when they do.
I bought my Sony Ericsson X1a two weeks ago and I'm loving Windows Mobile. Sure the other major smartphone OSes may have better interfaces, but Windows Mobile is a very able OS. A big matter of form over function.
I believe it will be the dominant smartphone OS as it has the largest range of manufacturers and handsets, whereas Android is only on a few phones right now (though that is sharply increasing), and Palm's new OS is only on one device at the current point in time. Mobile OSX though is only limited to the one device though...
So in the business world, I can see Windows Mobile or Blackberry remaining at the top. I can't really see Android gaining a lot of support in the business world as it links up with google a lot.. And with WebOS it needs time to grow. And then Mobile OSX? It's good for some people, but not for all.
I AM very curious though to see this Symbian Foundation device SE is expected to unveil second half of the year.
WinMo totally depends on the customized build..
How is the iphone competition when it's not a smartphone? That would be like saying the Hummer is competition to the Mercedes S Class.
Windows Mobile will stay relevant as long as the iPhone and G1 remain sucky for business users. Probably a correlation to exchange/outlook in the businessplace and wiindow mobile.
I'd like to go iPhone, but I need the other apps that come with the winmo.
Makes you wonder if they scrapped the previous winmo7 because it was too much like vista?
