Pre is for smartphone hoi polloi until proven. Once the operating system is proven, about six months (Nov/Dec) after it is actually out (April/May), you may see significant adoption by business.
I don't think you need to "jump ship for the Pre, if it doesn't have major bugs Verizon is in line to pick it up two or three months later, that is Palm's standard "exclusive" with Sprint or visa versa. There are too many former Sprint users who went to Verizon and won't ever come back for Palm to bank on the considerably smaller Sprint only.
Not everyone needs the power of Windows Mobile, or can put up with its complexities and minor, but you wont see large corporate buying of the Pre with a spanking new OS.
I use an 800w. Lots of problems. Battery life is very bad. The Pro has a much bigger battery. There are lots of fixes to bugs that never were fixed in firmware and the Pro also is significantly thinner.
