G1 turned into a boot drive: is nothing sacred?

There is nothing that we love more than booting things -- as you know, modern gadgetry is almost entirely dependent on "The Boot," in one way or another. TomTom? Gotta boot it up. PS3? Ditto. And those netbooks you're infatuated with? Fuhgeddaboutit. That's why whenever a novel way of booting something manifests itself, we're on it like white on rice. And you know what? If you can boot the Ultimate Boot CD off of a thumb drive, you can boot it off the G1 handset -- so long as it's connected to your PC via USB, and it's in mass storage mode. Pretty sweet. Hit the read link for the step-by-step. And, hey -- don't forget to have fun.

It'll work as a boot drive until the phone battery dies.
Well, it does need to be plugged into a USB port to, you know, be booted from. Kinda negates the whole battery issue.
Sorry--what exactly is the point of using the G1 as a boot drive?
