HTC's G2 "Sapphire 2.0" caught slumming in the wilds

Well, well, lookie here... HTC's G2 followup to the original Android phone getting a good man-handling in the wild. Expected in May, the images were leaked without specs or any real details. Still, it's clearly the G2 / Sapphire 2.0 handset with 3.2 megapixel camera leaked just a few weeks back along-side the rest of HTC's 2009 models. Hey, you didn't need that physical keyboard anyway, right?

If this comes to AT&T, I will probably give up my iPhone for it. I would probably keep both of them for the 30 day period that I have to return the G2 to see how it compares, but this is the first phone that has me seriously considering finally giving up the iPhone.
Lets hope this mobile has more than 192mb ram this time around....
I gave up my iPhone for the G1 and have not looked back. It's awesome and the Google integration is stunningly good. No more NuevaSync/third-party apps to get it all to work...no more clunky MobileMe either!
does it come in black?
Need to see how this it is and if it has 3.5 mm jack. In fact... thats the ONLY complaint I have against my G1. Its a bit fat and I never realized how much that 3.5mm jack would be missed.
I love having a true keyboard... but I s'pose I could get used to the soft kb if the phone was MUCH thinner..... AND HAS A 3.5MM JACK!! (hint hint HTC)
Judging by that older leaked photo, still no headphone jack. The only thing I see is the mini-usb proprietary HTC thingy. Not a bad looking phone, but there's no reason not to have a 3.5 anymore (even if the music player in android is a bit lacking).
is that a new sidekick in the background???
I'm not really digging that lonesome button on the front of the phone. The lack of a keyboard scares me a little. Does this mean legit multitouch for the G series?! Too many questions!!
I have to wait till see and touch the real phone, the original G1 looked and felt like crap!!! It's like someone designed it in a garage. If this phone is as good as the iPhone in both OS and quality, I may consider it along with the new Palm Pre.
They are rushing this phone, no need for it to come out now.
The G2 needs a better cam, 3.5mm jack, it needs to keep its keyboard and just have a few better features that the G1 didnt have. I'll keep my G1 till there is an actual upgrade in the phone...
They say the reason the G1 looks outdated (I have one) is because the actual hardware was designed 2 years ago. OK, fine. Now, to me, this G2 still looks outdated and, unless the thing is paper thin, there is no reason for it not to have a sliding keyboard, maybe one that slides down a la Palm Pre.
There is a reason for it not to have a physical keyboard. Some people don't want them and would rather use the touchscreen. You have to cater to those people too as well as offer different products as opposed to the same ol same ol but in a different form factor.
Which is fine, in which case you have to make it at least iPhone thin in order to compete. It doesn't like like that's the case here.
I'm not impressed. If this is all Android has to offer me in terms of phone choices they just made buying a Pre that much easier
I like the Pre i really although i wish that the Keyboard was Bigger and it just reminds me of a Touch Dual. After having the Touchscreen on My Original Touch Basically Go on me After a year and a half(And ive had mine since its release) its safe to say that for me if i cant Navigate with a Keyboard Like Touch Pro or G1 im out of the Touchscreen only Game.....Thats what prevents me From Buying A Touch Diamond over a Pro. I really like Android But Ill wait and See Sprints other releases this summer. So aside from the Pre, If their Android Model Doesnt have a Full Keyboard im just gonna get a Curve or Niagra.
The chin is still too big IMO. Put more buttons there, or shrink the blank area.
REALLY hoping this comes to AT&T!!
This phone looks gorgeous, I honestly love the android interface. I've also had the iphone for tmobile and it doesnt hold a candle to the G1. The iphone is a good gaming device but not really a good phone. I will miss the physical qwerty keyboard. Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
