Palm Pre Android port already in progress
The Palm Pre won't be out for several months yet, but that isn't stopping a few clever hackers from working out how to boot Android onto the pebble-shaped slider. As it turns out, efforts to port Android to the OMAP 3 processor used in the Pre have been underway since July of last year, so tailoring the build to the Pre shouldn't be too hard -- the difficult parts will be gaining serial access to the bootloader to enable switching between OS's and cramming both systems plus whatever apps and media you might have into the Pre's fixed 8GB of storage, since there's no microSD expansion. All problems we're eager to see tackled just as soon as the Pre launches -- doesn't seem like it can happen soon enough, does it?[Thanks, Chris]

And exactly would anyone like to do this? Palm Pre seems to be superior to Android in most ways, and there will be a bucket full of new android hadware out soon anyway.
It would be more urgent to port Android to Xperia, which is suffering terribly from the WinMo crap and the pathetic panels courtesy of Sony Ericsson. Should be relatively easy on the Qualcomm platform. If only I had a little bit of time...
"And exactly would anyone like to do this?"
I believe it's called "choice"...
The real question captain mrs gordini, is, why would you port anything to anything in the first/last place? Have you ever parked your car in a splot not designed for your tiny scion? Exactly.. now you know what I am saying.
Android has infinitely deeper pockets to develop its platform long, long into the future. Dvorak agrees. webOS is window-dressing the Palm franchise for sale, a common practice for borderline companies.
I think this is just peoples impatient way of getting android on a Sprint phone. Im sure Sprint will Get an Android phone smtime in the second half of this year but if its Not G1 Esque (in the sense of a Slide out keyboard) tho sprint seems to get the Better end of HTCs offerings than T-Mobile anyway. The Pre reminds of Touch Dual or Verizon Blitz either way that style Keyboard just isnt enough for me.
android on a phone like the pre would be great.
True, although great is a relative term.
I don't know if I should be more excited about WebOS or Android. Seems how they're both still in development, (more the first than the latter), they could both go either way.
Talked to a Samsung Rep and he Said later Year they will be releasing a Samsung android phone for Sprint also an Instinct mini.
