Verizon touts 1 million BlackBerry Storms sold to date
Well, it looks like the BlackBerry faithful have come out in full force to snag "Verizon's best-selling device," after all. Despite RIM's nightmarish "new reality," of half-baked firmware and broken dreams, Verizon has made it known that the latest 'Berry has grown to a full 1 million units sold between the November 21st launch and the end of January. Apparently the ever-leaking updates have kept enough people satisfied with the keyboardless device to reach this milestone, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed that the updates don't stop flowing and this powerhouse becomes the titan it has the potential to become.

not to be that guy, but......
So they sold 1million....is that net of returns?
or, do they count mine twice? I bought it, returned it, and they probably sold it to some other sucker
My gf works for Verizon marketing and said that the 1 Million sold does NOT take into account all of the phones that were returned by unhappy customers..
if they count the returned ones, then i dont think that is an impressive statistic. id say theyve probably only solld 900 thou units minus the returned ones. i totally want one though. say, would ya mind givin me one of the returned ones vzw?? hmm? please? no? okay fine.
Wow, that's quite the swath of misery to brag about. ;-)
Happy G1 user who doesn't get random crashes.
Random crashes? I've had a storm since day 1. never crashed.
According to Verizon Wireless: “The Storm has the lowest return rate of any of our PDAs and at this point in its life cycle, it has the lowest return rate of any PDA we currently sell.”
End of misleading speculation.
Well, I work in IT and three people got them in my department. One kept and the other two returned. One returner went back to his iPhone on AT&T and the other went back to his older BlackBerry on Verizon. Third isn't really happy with it either but he's giving it a chance.
I just do not believe this people return the BlackBerry Curve more than the Storm on Verizon.
I'm sorry, but what did the iPhone sell last quarter?
I'm bitter AT&T didn't get the Storm but I'll live with my iPhone.
AT&T was probably crazy like a fox about the Storm. They're due to get the GSM version 2H09 and it was a wise decision to be 2nd in line on a new RIM OS UI. After AT&T's problems getting the Bold approved for launch, it appears they learned their lesson where RIM was concerned. Every company, even RIM, has its limitations. By the time AT&T is ready to launch their Storm, it should be much more refined, given the rate of improvement already on Verizon's version.
@ backbeat
verizon is the EXCLUSIVE carrier in the U.S. for the Storm. this means that other carriers WILL NOT get it. Maybe at some point down the line once it's not big shit anymore, but for now and the foreseeable future... ain't gonna happen.

^Please don't showcase your ignorance when you directly respond to a post from me.
Rogers is due to release the Storm - 1H09, AT&T - 2H09.
@backbeat
Rogers is Canada, not US.
@ backbeat
please do not showcase YOUR ignorance...
1) Rogers is a Canadian carrier, NOT a U.S. carrier. I said VZW is the exclusive carrier in the U.S.
2) quoting again "EXCLUSIVE", it can be said that while AT&T may eventually get a SIMILAR phone, it will NOT be the Storm. So unless you have something official and public by RIM and/or AT&T, let's just call it a day.
* footnotes:
1) geography lesson:: U.S. = United States. While North America includes Canada, the United States does not.
2) vocabulary lesson:: exclusive = shutting out all others from a part or share; an exclusive right or privilege.
^Where did I state that Rogers was a US carrier?
Where I state that Verizon was not the _current_ exclusive US carrier for the Storm?
Is not Verizon's exclusivity duration partially based upon its sales success? Shortest period? Longest period? What percentage of Verizon-branded Storms have been unlocked for use on US GSM carriers? Published sources?
Since you're the genius here, please educate with your awesome and frightening insider intellect.

Oh ... and Fuck You back to the cave from whence you slithered, oh-insolent-one. [look it up, idiot]
@ backbeat
every response you post is just degrading more and more to show how much you really don't know...
your initial comment was about AT&T getting the Storm. when I pointed out that you were WRONG because VZW is the exlusive carrier in the U.S. for the Storm you brought Rogers into the fray... Nowhere did I say a damned thing about *** NON UNITED STATES *** carriers. did you know Vodafone has it in Europe? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Europe isn't part of the U.S., is it?? Neither is Canada. It's about time you learned that "neighbor to the north" doesn't mean the next state above you.
yet you kept on pushing, saying the Storm has been unlocked for use with other carriers. nowhere was it mentioned that the Storm hadn't been unlocked for use with other carriers. But guess what?! Regardless of the fact that people are hacking the Storm (*ahem* excuse me, unlocking) for use on different network doesn't take away the fact that they bought the Storm from VZW (or from someone who did) and that you for damned sure cannot walk into any other carrier's stores and buy a Storm, nor will you be able to in any foreseeable future. If you find an AT&T, Sprint, T-Mo, etc etc etc store that actually carries the Storm for sale, then please post the address and phone number to be confirmed.
oh, and now you want me to look up words that I already know the meaning of? well, how about you just look up. do you see that bright light? that's called the asshole your head is up right now. and wouldn't you know it-- it's your own!
^You don't like the fact that anyone is satisfied with any other carrier. Seeing how transparent you are in your defense of all-things-Verizon, we get that, Skippy.
And ... ummm ... _Again_, where is it documented that Verizon has an unlimited exclusivity period or _any_ exclusivity, for that matter? Sources, Bunky. Sources. (Your secret-decoder ring doesn't count, Skippy).
I've shit higher lifeforms than you, Idiot.
@ backbeat
#1 I don't care what carrier people like. Yes, I prefer Verizon. But that's one of the great things about America - freedom of choice.
#2 you want sources for exclusivity? VZW has made it VERY public that it's the exclusive U.S. carrier. How about you post *your* sources that AT&T will get the Storm.
#3 you say you've shit higher life forms, yet you cant even spell your own screen name correctly. and to top that off, when you cant think of anything intelligent to say, you revert to name-calling.
I'm done with you and your immature rantings that try - unsuccessfully - to counter point the truths that I am posting.
good day.
A Typo? Seriously? That's the best ya got, Skippy?
You wouldn't know the truth if it was balls-deep up your ass ... Which reminds me to register a complaint against you with the ASPCA for your treatment of your gerbil.
Owned the storm since dec 27th.
It has real hardware issues like dust under the screen, due to poor sealing between the lcd and the touch screen panel. I have about seven specks visible.
Another hardware issue is loss of touch response in very cold weather along with some fogging of the glass.
All of this can be traced to that poor sealing issue. They use tape to seal the two panels ...no joke.
Sure it also has software bugs that suck, but like that pinhead RIM suit said "fuck it..everyone has bugs"
I may sound bitter, but I actually like the phone. The apps I need are starting to show up and it has tons of potential if RIM keeps improving it with updates. They need to LISTEN to the forums and adjust.
Reps in my local VZ store say 1 in 5 Storms sold comes back.
I would ask that same rep how many of those come back because the person came from a regular plain phone and can't figure out how to use the Storm...
I came from a Voyager, fully knowing what I was getting myself into with the Storm. Yet it STILL took me at least a week to figure out the nuances. hell, from time to time I learn something new that I wouldn't have come across because normally I wouldn't think to do it or didn't care to try. the only thing I miss about the Voyager is the keyboard... but not so much anymore now that I've gotten comfortable with the SurePress screeen.
I got the Storm day one and I also sell Verizon and I just could not handle the storm. It did everything ok (Email was awesome as usual) but nothing great. I ended up going back to my env and sure i lost functionality but i'm happy with the phone. Just general frustration with the device.
I have had the storm since day one. Needless to say I like, but it does have some problems, not nearly perfect. But i like how Engadget's comments about the 1 million was laced with negativity. Like i said I know its not perfect, but why is it that Engadget is slow or non-existent when it comes to reporting on news about it? I am not saying its a fan boy thing, and I understand there are more Iphones out there, so it makes sense to give them more coverage...but for the most part there is a dearth about the storm from this site.
2 words:: AT&T and fanboyism. notice how the iPhone is the greatest thing since individually wrapped cheese slices, yet it's rarely mentioned that it can't do simple things that a $30 phone can do (yes, I am referencing picture messaging and recording videos).
I, too, have the Storm. I've had my fair share of "wouldn't it be nice if..." situations. I have loaded OS .90 and it has its' bugs, but I can deal with that. Once the OS has worked out the kinks and becomes more stable, I'm sure it'll be THAT much better.
