You will hear some of the largest arguments from this union centered around competitive wages, unfair commission practices and poor health benefits. And they will talk about how companies like Verizon treat their employees so much better. Ya want to know why? Because companies like Verizon can spend the MILLIONS of dollars they save each year by not paying over inflated salaries and benefits to under-experienced union workers and give it to deserving workers in the form of great commissions and improved healthcare. And if Verizon and other companies are so much better, then walk away from AT&T and go to Verizon. But you know what? Verizon and other similar companies in this industry won't touch 90% of this unionized workforce because they CANNOT compete with their existing workforce. So even those these union folks will whine till the cows come home, they stay at AT&T and get their unions to bully around the company. Because they cannot compete out in today's workforce. You folks would be amazed to see the pay, bonus, vacation and health package that most of these union workers get in exchange for a job you could have done as well when you were in high school. Us non-union folks from AT&T who have been putting in 60 hours a week for the last 10 years at a fixed salary are so tired of these leeches effecting our jobs. And now we are having to put in 80 hours a week to learn how to fill the gaps that these slugs will leave open when they strike. Our pay raises have been frozen; bonuses slashed; healthcare costs gone up; we get 4 recognized vacation days per year; and here we are working our rear ends off just happy to have a job. I cannot believe that these groups are talking strike when large companies just like AT&T are going out of business. Unbelievable.

Chris

Comments on Communications Workers of America authorizes strike of 20,000 AT&T workers, could happen soon

Verizon may be good to their employees, but they're horrible to their customers, especially in places without competition. The Union is useless as they are never there for you when you have a problem but when it comes to contract time and collecting dues, they are worse then debt collectors. But on the same token, AT&T Mobility has made it harder and harder for it's reps to make money off commission. At a time where AT&T is racking in SERIOUS Money off data and messaging features, they should be encouraging reps to do their best. but every year, they make it harder to make the same amount of money every year. at the end of the day, reps are stuck between the brick wall and the sword held up to their throats. You can cross the picket line and work. The union understands that there are people in the union that need the money and the income you get from the union does not help much. Oh yea, if you do strike and are part of the union you get some income from the union, not much, but something. They have the option of fining you for crossing but they usually don't.
Now, in reguards to the union and strike possibility, We had the same issue last year in my district and the possibility of a strike came up. At&t prepares for the posibility of a strike by treating the non union employees like slaves. We never went on strike because we negotiated and came to an agreement. It's nice to have someone in your corner, standing up for you and your rights and benifits. At&t wants to raise our insurance premiums 3x and wants to lower our pay. Why is it wrong to fight against this crap? We used to have reasonable stats to make, we got perks for doing a great job, we didn;t have to fight for things that were common. Now we have stats that are ridiculous and hard to meet, they hope those that have been there for a while quit or get fired so they can higher lower paid employees. We don't receive any perks or praise for a job well done. We have to fight for things we used to get, once we had to throw a fit to have them replace a moldy ice and water machine. All the union wants is to protect our jobs and make sure we are paid what we are worth. I've worked for non union places before (home depot) and they crap on their employees. I quit when I was told that I had a choice between my job and my sick kid who had been in te hospital. A lot of my friends quit when the ceo told us thank you for his million dollar bonus and we got a 25% off coupon for the store. Yea non union is great isn't it? So even on the days when I was in care and we would have 30-40 calls waiting all day, you're still taking almost the same amount of calls, you may take like an extra 10-15 depending on length but every day is different, just because there are calls there doesnt mean you are having to handle all 50 of those customers on your own. It looks bad for the company of course, to have hold times that long, but in the long run all you can do is put out the best effort you can on each call and move on to the next. Its the statistics we have to reach or just the stuff we need to state on each call. I don't even make 10.00 an hour right now and they are going to hold us to certain standards or things we need to state on every call. I could have been a hard ass and said no you owe us the .254.xx, but instead to help him like I do every other customer I handle I gave him the 100.00 credit to only collect 154.xx of the final balance. I make under 10.00 an hour and we deal with this everyday, plus the 30 day policy was noted to the account amoung other things. Do I believe the customer or the rep from the other department?
