Nokia 5800 launching in North American flavor this month for $399?
Unlocked European 5800s are still occasionally trickling into Nokia's Chicago and New York flagship stores, but you might want to hold off on taking the plunge if you spend more than a few passing minutes in the New World each month. The Nokia Blog is reporting that the remixed North American version of Nokia's first S60 5th Edition device will drop somewhere around February 26 for an MSRP of $399 -- though retailers can naturally charge less if they're feeling generous. Interestingly, we checked in with the stores last week about this very phone and were quoted "sometime in the second quarter" for launch -- but then again, we wouldn't put it past a site called The Nokia Blog be a little more attuned to the situation, if you know what we're saying.

Want. Want. Want. Wait. Wait. Wait. If it's unlocked only; whom do we think the retailer will be? $399? A bit much. I'm hoping beyond hope for a subsidized T-Mobile version. Anybody else itching for this toy?
I've had it for a couple months. It's pretty good, but the camera is definitely a step down from previous 5mps (being only 3mp this is a 'duh' but my N73 was better) put out by Nokia. Lots of snow & the video quality is a downer too. Overall I like a lot about the 5th gen S60 but I'd really like a more quality container (all plastic w/ some creakiness) w/ a few more N series specs.
WTH, they quoted us a price of $280, it seems like a forever ago when they announced it. Now they want to hike the price upto that much!!! That is ridiculous....
ugh waiting for no reason....now im finally gonna make my jump and buy another phone
AFAIK, it was never going to be $280, but initially they talked about €280 or so... (about $400 at the time).
This is a really great device. Here in Europe the official Nokia store offer it for 439€...
...while you can get the 5800 from other stores at 339€ !! Which doesn't seems far from 399$.
For this price you an unbeatable value compared to the competition!! You good a GREAT screen, a real and complete smartphone OS, all today's features (GPS, wifi, 3G+...), a good battery life, and the phone is shipped with a complete set of accessorizes. Regarding the photo and videos quality, i think this should improve after one or too upgrades of the phone. The optic is good, so this is a little wierd.
Regarding the phone quality itself, you can't hope to buy an NSeries for half the price ! BUT i have played a lot with the 5800, and i love the finish. It is far from being a boring and cheap black plastic design !
We just got advised yesterday of the pricing here in Australia, $979 RRP. That's just under $650 US, I think someone is lining their pockets fairly well.
I ordered a 5800XM from engadget via Rep Sales.. beginning of February.. Still haven't received the phone.. Now having doubts whether or not they are legit company.. What gives????
