WinMo 6.5 screenshots show off Marketplace, Outlook Live, more

Number of applications downloaded from the iPhone App Store
After hitting a historic 1 billion downloads, Apple says the store cleared another half a billion apps in the following three months.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Is this why Apple stock is going through the roof today for no apparent reason?
Microsoft, I have only two words for you: "abandon ship".
Nice one, fantard. Is this why your moron factor is also through the roof? Way to bring another iPhone vs everything battle into a thread, you fuckoff.
LOL I really got your goat didn't I? A nice extreme overreaction from a WinMo user trying desperately to find reasons to like his phone..
I've used WinMo cell phones and PDAs since Windows first came to portable devices. I feel entirely justified, from my own experience, in saying that Microsoft has fallen too far behind Apple, Android and now Palm, and the roadmap they have laid out has no hope of regaining ground.
So bite me.
until you can name me just 5 things that the iphone can do which winmo can't, shuttup. cuz i can honestly name 10 things rapid fire which will never allow me to get an iphone. so please, shuttup fantard
Well, one thing I learned today is that Microsoft will always have a strong market with smartphone users who have anger-management issues.
See Bill, if you had said that to begin with, you wouldn't be low-ranked. The fact is some people are pro this or anti that with no explanation. If you had said that to begin with, you wouldn't had come off as an Apple fanboy with no other intentions than to start a shitstorm.
Also, thanks for telling me what kind of smartphone user I am. I'M SURE I could had never figured that one out for myself. Also, thanks again for telling me how much I apparently don't like my phone. I love my Touch Pro. And here's a newsflash for you buddy. I, like anyone else, have a choice of what phone I get. I CHOSE the Touch Pro. For a great many reasons (TouchFlo3D, Media Playing Capabilities, WinMo's open platform, on and on). If I had wanted an iPhone or whatever, how about this.. I could just go out and get one! If I didn't like the OS or phone it's on, why the hell would I keep it? Especially when it's BEYOND easy to exploit Protection Plans.
So you don't like Windows Mobile. Good for you. It's about how to you choose to express said opinion. Before I got a shot at TF3D I bashed WinMo all the time with legit reasoning and linguistic skills beyond a 4th grade level. I never got shit for it. Look at your rank buddy, it should show you how the majority of readers in this thread also find you to be a fuckwipe.
"is there anything here a WinMo OEM hasn't done on its own with creative skinning?"
... as I glance down at my HTC Touch Pro, the answer is a resounding "No."
Mentions on the blog that he turned off the honeycomb and sliding panels because it was eating up resources. So maybe we aren't completely stuck with the old program screens.
hopefully not, i remember reading about this user...and he said w/ the honey comb on the device slowed down to a crawl. it was really bad. which really supports the idea that winmo 6.5 is going to DEPEND on hardware acceleration. Though this would make for more expensive devices, i know it'll finally bring more appealing GUI. MS's lowest common denominator formula (i guess winmo has been designed to run on devices w/ as low as a 200 MHz processor) sucks ass. Some of us like all the flexibility you get with winmo (regedits and all), but being hamstrung w/ the overall experience because someone wants to spend $49.99 after rebates (TOPS) on a smartphone sucks even more.
I do now have the honeycomb working, so sliding panels, and the honeycomb, so the program menu and settings are set up in honeycomb.
I have qvga files and VGA files.
I guess my expectations were lower than most people who seem to think that 6.5 was going to be some huge interface improvement. I just don't see that happening with a MAJOR release like 7 due in less than a year's time. 6.5 is nothing more than a stop-gap to keep the 6.x line going until the REAL major revision hits in 2010.
thank you. i dont know why people are all disappointed that this update wont completely overhaul the OS. it's called 6.5 for a reason. it's version 6 with added features and fixes. now if version 7 comes out with only this amount of upgrades, then you all have reason to be upset.
...with honeycomb turned off it looks like windows 3.x on a (slightly) smaller screen.
*sigh*
Conflipper now has it working with Honeycomb and the sliding panels...

Those screens show it has not aged gracefully either. I love my Mogul w/6.1 but come on Microsoft. Bring some Vista/7 prettiness to that interface.
The Windows Media Player is fake; the theme is just one by PoorlyDuck and the larger menu is just FingerMenu...
The skin was poorlyduck, however the menus are real.

Same ugly looks as all the previous version of WinMo. I'll bet that it's still just as clunky to use as previously, too (speaking as the owner of several WinMo devices).
More new screenshots over here.

I just hope WinMo 6.5 is more stable than WinMo 6.1. My phone will freeze up about half the time on incoming calls! Plus I have to reboot it several times a day sometimes, while other times it goes days without any problems. So weird.
Microsoft -- make the phone functions more robust and not susceptible to freezing or locking up.
The reason your phone freezes is because it is running multiple processes at once. That's something even an iPhone can't do that is why it only crashes once a day.
Whomever figures out how to run multiple apps at a time on a stable smartphone will get my business. I've had just about every WM phone and I recently got an iPhone. I am not wowed. I still get a crash at least once a day unless I clear the memory and I can't multi-task. I feel like I've gone backwards and not forwards in some respects.
But GPS and the web on the iPhone totally kicks WM ass. If MS could just get that right for once.
If you are using a cooked ROM that could be the reason. Also, the HTC touch isn't the freshest phone around.
I'm using the official Sprint ROM. How'd you know I have an HTC Touch?!?!?!
this is a different bill than the one above, let me first state that. as a WM user, I have to say, that I guess 7 is what we'll be waiting on. it seemed that no matter what, the GUI on windows mobile always look like crap.come on Microsoft, this is the future trend for computing. make a more refined looking shell and less crashing, and you can gain some users back. but at this rate, you are just making more and more people jump ship to the other format.
There`s no way this is a screenshot from the new windows mobile... They must know they`re competing with apple nowadays (and Palm now) for smartphone supremacy, and if this is the best that the biggest software company around can bring to the table then that`s pretty sad. They better step their game up for windows 7 or it`s game over. It`s going to be an embarassing day for Microsoft when they have to reveal this to the public. If these screenshots are real that is...
*windows MOBILE 7
Well, I realize this isn't common knowledge, but all WinMo users have an alternative to the old program screens. TouchFlo (Manilla2/3D/etc) hacks are all around. SPB Mobile Shell enjoyed almost 2 years on my PPC6700 and Mogul, . Legit iPhone interface clones are everywhere as well. The possibilites are all around, and it's just a little bit of Googling away. If you're running WinMo 5-6.1, there's plenty off good stuff to be had. :)
what you've failed to consider is that most WinMo users who complain about WinMo in forums like this are not "savvy" enough to work out how to make the best of the OS. They could never perform a registry edit, install a new ROM or even install a new skin, that's why these sheep flock to the iphone which, like a Mac, is designed for the simpletons of this world.
lmao @ podgedog good one there. There's a reason windows has a higher following because of the tweaks available. some fan boys might see that as a weakness but I don't. coming from an instinct I love my touch pro for the ability to change anything and any part of the phone. if I can't mod it, im not happy. I want MY phone to be how I want it. nuff said.
