NVIDIA's Tegra jumps on the Android bandwagon
We've been hearing all kinds about NVIDIA's Tegra the last couple weeks, and have all been quietly wishing and hoping that we'd see Android getting some action -- and we will, and how! Apparently while the initial focus is Windows Mobile, NVIDIA sees Android surpassing Windows Mobile sales into 2012 and has decided to put some serious grunt into the new OS's development. The NVIDIA Tegra 2600 part is being developed with an optimized and accelerated Android release aimed squarely at OEM development and set for release sometime in Q2 this year. We've no idea how long it takes from reference to finished-in-our-hands-product, but the briefing hints at a couple mystereious sets, the "IAC S2" in Q3 and a "Yulong N8" by Q4. This guy is under glass over at NVIDIA's H.Q. here at MWC, so expect more once we stroll over for a look-see. Few more pics after the break.

This is exactly what I've been waiting for!
Now let's hope they've also made that spinny-thingy UI available for Android when this comes out.
I always said I would jump ship on the iPhone for a Tegra powered phone. I was hoping for WinMO but I wanted Android the most. This is awesome. I just hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg like the origional iPhone when released.
the chart gives slanted information if you ask me. it shows not marketshare, but growth...quite frankly android could even double those growth numbers from 2008-2012 and they wouldn't even be close to catching up to MSFT.
on a side note, hurry up w/ these tegra chipsets nvidia. less talk. i was really expecting my next handset to feature a 600-800MHz or higher chipset, but w/ the talks of the touch pro 2, i dont think i can pass on that. Though i did wish it had a lil more ram and flash.
Nvidia should stick with graphics chips. Their network chips are for sh*t.
