HTC Magic first eyes-on!

Surprise, surprise! Vodafone and HTC launched a new Android set named the Magic today. We had a brief eyes-on with it, though the version we see above is not final hardware. If you peek at the slides in the gallery you'll notice that there are more buttons and they're laid out quite differently than what you see above. Of course, we plan a more extensive tour of the Magic and all its Cupcake goodness a little later on today. Pics and a shaky vid after the break.

Aww no t mo ??
Maybe no T-Mobile, but this does bring us closer to CDMA carriers in the US as Vodafone owns a large portion of Verizon... ;)
until verizon joins the OHA, there will be no android devices on verizon. this is not exactly news.
Still no 3.5mm jack ? Is this a joke ? Apple paid them for that or what ?
Does it have predictive text? Anything other than Qwerty? I hate Qwerty touchscreen keyboards. I'm all about FITALY and Cootek's TouchPal.
This is what the first Android phone should have looked like, not like the G1 with that ridiculous chin next to the keyboard.
Ok, that looks a lot nicer than the it did in the renders from yesterday and the blurrycam shots from before that. But I still think HTC's WinMo handsets look nicer and they need to put Android on a few of those.
Why? Android isn't remotely as capable as HTC's customized Windows Mobile versions. That would be like putting Windows 95 on an HP TouchSmart PC... you'd lose all of the best features.
@Adam:
Why would I want Android over WM? Maybe for the same reason I don't use Windows on my computer, it's slow, buggy, and a pile of crap. Every experience I've had with WM has been exactly the same. In fact, the only MS products I've ever enjoyed using were my XBox and XBox 360, and my XBox was modded and now runs XBMC.
Noah K is that you yap yapping away!!!
For real now.... can I have your job?
"Whenever you read a good book, it's like the author is right there, in the room, talking to you, which is why I don't like to read good books."
i personally like the look (and physical keyboard) of the G1 better than this...
Absolutely. I love the physical keyboard on my G1. For convenience sake I wouldn't mind a touchscreen keyboard, but after having a Curve 8310 and now the G1, I don't think I could function without a physical keyboard.
I think it looks much better than the G1, but the lack of physical keyboard throws this one off my list. Not that I live in Europe anyway...
hmmm...is this recorded with an iphone? :p
