What's this, a high-end slate from
Motorola that we can all cautiously get behind? Hard as it may be to believe, it seems that Moto might be working on some serious hardware to compete with... well, anything. We don't have any information on this device we're seeing here beyond what we can make out from the picture -- 5 megapixel Kodak-branded camera, big touchscreen, TV-out, and a xenon flash -- but the tip suggests that this could be Moto's first Android device. We tend to think that's not very likely, since we don't have Home or Back buttons on the front (which would also rule out Windows Mobile 6.5 without a Start button), but we suppose they could be hiding out on the side somewhere -- and frankly, we don't see Motorola blowing anyone away with a touchscreen version of its proprietary platform any time soon. At any rate, let's just hope this shot is real, and the phone's almost ready for retail.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Shocker ! i hope moto comes though and makes some nice phones, they gunna need a "Moto Pre" to get back in the game quick
that's HOT, please let it be Android...
att please!!!
This could be one of Verizons new phones.
I'm really hoping this will be a true HTC Touch HD competitor and not just a feature phone with a big ass screen.
If it's Android we know it will be destined for either T-Mobile or Sprint and possibly both.
Please be WinMo 6.5, CDMA, and released for Telus...
Moto dissed Windows Mobile. We ain't seeing any more Windows Mobile Motorolas
Could even be the first "Harmony" phone line up that Motorola designed for Nextel pre-merger with Sprint. So, instead of the iDEN/WiMAX, perhaps this is the CDMA/WiMAX phone that Sprint has been begging Motorola to make. And given that Google invested into WiMAX (via Clearwire)...I think this is your best bet...esp since Sprint is already on record stating that they have a CDMA/WiMAX phone slated for launch in 2010. I think this could the that phone...maybe.
is that me, or does that look a hell of a lot like someone photoshopped the camera parts of a zn5 with the back of a rokr e8?
Its just you.
The front doesn't really look like a Rokr at all IMO, might as well start from scratch with all the changes you'd have to do. The back does resemble the zn5 but only in that they are going to have similar designs through out.
i think you may have misread what i wrote..this is clearly a mockup based on the rokr e8; the camera on the back is taken directly from a photo the zn5, kodak branding and all, and it's pretty clear in the top right image that the camera element is out of place with regards to its color and three-dimenionality. not to mention the red speaker grill, and headphone jack placement along with the little protrusion being exactly the same as the e8's..
not to say that putting those two phones together with a touchpad wouldn't be totally sweet..just pointing out the obvious sources of this 'shop job. wish my zn5 had the sweet keypad of the e8..
This appears to be the Motorola Flash for Verizon.
Maybe. It the same idea I guess (large touchscreen) but its missing many of the design elements that we saw on the Flash. The chrome, the angles, the raised keys. I guess it could of evolved into this but I'd say they're two completely different phones.
:( Why Kodak?!?! No one likes crappy sensors coupled with poor ISO and a plastic lens... not even on a phone.
"which would also rule out Windows Mobile 6.5 without a Start button"
I would have thought so too, but then I've got this Touch Pro in my pocket here with not a single start button to be found
which is a bad thing, by the way
WM 6.5 phones are required to have a start button on them. It was one of the rules that MS laid out.
That would be great if Motorola could get its act together. Should have all HTC Diamond 2 features, power and a slightly larger screen (smaller than HD tho) if design not set. Be upgradeable to WM 6.5 & 7. truth is we'd rather buy American, especially these days. Now release it yesterday
Doesn't have to be Android, Windows Mobile, or the proprietary Motorola OS. There's MOTOMAGX, Motorola's open Linux/Java platform, and there's a chance it could be Symbian in its UIQ form - Motorola has a number of recent phones out running that.
My gut tells me it's either Android anyway (regardless of buttons visible on a screenshotless preview), MOTOMAGX, or UIQ/Symbian.
Don't think it will be Android as it doesn't have Home or Back buttons or a ball which, from my understanding, is required on Android devices.
More likely a Symbian or proprietary Moto device
It's a mockup based on a Touch HD - but nice if moto will bring up something like that ... with Android of course!
